FLYERS NEWS
Panthers 3 Flyers 2
It Was Over When.....
Ollie Jokinen scored the Panthers' third goal of the night, late in the 2nd period, to put them up for good 3-2. They way the Flyers have been playing lately, you just knew they wouldn't have an answer.
The Game Puck Goes To.....
Well, it was going to go to Simon Gagne who scored the Flyers only two goals on the night, but then Jokinen scored that last goal, so we'll give it to him instead.
The Stat of The Game Is.....
Well, its not exactly a stat of the game, but we'll go with it anyway. 5 as in 5 consecutive losses for the Flyers including this one. Never before have the Flyers displayed such futility. Now, if you really want a stat from the game, you can have the always popular 0, as 0 power play goals on the night for the Flyers and 0 goals by a Flyer besides Simon Gagne. Yes the Flyers did actually score more than once on night, but both goals were contributed by Gagne and the Flyers once again failed to score on the power play, despite having 6 chances to do so.
The Bottom Line Is.....
5 straight losses pretty much says it all, as far as I am concerned. Maybe next week when Peter Forsberg returns from his wrist injury, the Flyers will actually win a game, or not.

FLYERS NEWS
Lightning 4 Flyers 1
It Was Over When.....
The second period ended. The Lightning scored twice in the period and it was all they needed for the win.
The Game Puck Goes To.....
Well, no specific Lightning player really stood out tonight, so we'll just give it to goalie Marc Denis who allowed the Flyers just one goal on 35 shots.
The Stat of The Game.....
1, as in 1 goal for the Flyers. For the second game in a row the Flyers managed only 1 goal and they didn't get it until the end of the third period. You just can't win if you don't score.
The Bottom Line Is.....
This is not going to be a good year for the Flyers. I have tried repeatedly to stay optimistic with this team, but how can I anymore. I mean, they can't do anything right. They can't score, whether on the power play or at full strength, and they can't keep up with anyone else on defense. Before I thought they were just unlucky, but now they're just plain bad. They have played 7 games this season, 7, and they have only 1 win. Even in the NHL that's inexplicable. As if things weren't bad enough, Peter Forsberg sprained his wrist tonight, and he'll probably be out for a while, so don't expect things to turn around anytime soon.

FLYERS NEWS
Sabres 9 Flyers 1
It Was Over When.....
The second period started. The Sabres scored 6 goals in the period and built up a 6 goal lead.
The Game Puck Goes To.....
Maxim Afinogenov who had a goal and 4 asissts, Thomas Vanel who 2 goals and 2 assists and Derek Roy who had 2 goals.
The Stat of The Game is.....
9 as in 9 goals by the Sabres. Usually you don't win when you give up 9 goals and the Flyers didn't tonight.
The Bottom Line Is.....
This was just ugly, embarassing and whatever else you want to call it. I mean the Flyers gave up 9 goals over the last 2 periods on just 25 shots. Basically everything that could have gone wrong for the Flyers did. All I can think is that it can't possibly get any worse for the Flyers than this, so basically the only way for them go now is up.

PHILLIES NEWS
Remember a couple weeks ago when I said that 3rd base coach Bill Dancy, 1st base coach Marc Bombard, and bench coach Gary Varsho would not be a part of the Phils coaching staff in 2007, well today the Phillies hired their replacements. Art Howe, yes that Art Howe the former Mets Manager, will be the new 3rd base coach, Davey Lopes will be the new 1st base coach, and Jimy Williams will be the new bench coach. Now, I am not sure if these guys are really any better than the 3 that preceded them, but they have one thing that Bombard, Dancy, and Varsho didn't, previous experience at the major league level. Well, happy trails everyone.

EAGLES NEWS
Saints 27 Eagles 24
It Was Over When.....
Saints kicker John Carney hit a 31 yard field goal as time expired. Basically it was over when the clock expired.
The Game Ball Goes To.....
The Saints' offense which put up 372 yards and 27 points. Quarterback Drew Brees passed for 275 yards and 3 Touchdowns and Wide Receiver Joe Horn had 6 catches for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Stat of The Game Is.....
3, as in just 3 for 10 on 3rd down for the Eagles offense. Its hard to win when you always have 3rd and long and you fail to convert. Yes the Eagles did still manage to compile 325 yards of offense and 24 points, but if they hadn't had so many 3rd and longs they would have had so much more.
The Bottom Line Is.....
This loss is a real let down for Eagles after their big win over the Cowboys last week. Now, instead of improving to 5-1 and maintaining their 1.5 game lead in the NFC East they fell to 4-2 and lead by just .5 games. This is a game they could have and should have won. Maybe the Saints are being helped along by a higher power, or maybe the Eagles were just hung over from last week. Whatever the reason for today's loss, I just hope it doesn't carry over to next week.
