FLYERS NEWS

Bruins 4 Flyers 3
It Was Over When....
The Bruins Marc Savard scored to open the 3rd period, putting the Bruins up for good 4-2. It had been 3-2 going into 3rd period and it looked as if the Flyers would be able to tie the game and force overtime, but Savard's goal erased all hope for the Flyers as they failed to add a third goal to their tally until there were less than 2 minutes to play.
The Game Puck Goes To....
Marc Savard who had a hand in all 4 Bruins goals on the night. He scored their 1st and last goals, and assisted on their 2nd and 3rd goals.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
2, as in 2 power play goals on the night for the Bruins to 0 for the Flyers. Often in the NHL the difference between winning and losing is whether or not you can take advantage of your power play opportunities, and it was again tonight.
The Bottom Line Is....
This was a tough loss for the Flyers but sadly it's just another one among many this season for the Orange and Black, who at the half way mark of the season are just 11-26-4 for an NHL low 26 points. So let's just say things are not looking so good for The Flyers right now, as if they ever really did.

Timberwolves 104 Sixers 102 Final In Overtime
It Was Over When....
The Timberwolves Kevin Garnett sunk a jumper at the buzzer in overtime to seal the win for the T-Wolves. Just before Garnett's buzzer beater Andre Iguodala had a chance to win it for the Sixers but his running jump shot rimmed out, setting the stage for Garnett.
The Game Ball Goes To....
Kevin Garnett with 25 points and 14 rebounds, Mark Blount with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Randy Foye with 11 points and 10 assists off the bench.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
As the final score would suggest this was statistically a pretty even game between the two teams with the only real difference being the final score, so we'll make our stat 104, as in the 104 points scored by the T-Wolves on the night. Basically it just came down to the end of the game and who would be able to make that final shot. The Timberwolves made their last shot and the Sixers didn't so the the T-wolves won.
The Bottom Line Is....
Can you say heartbreak? I mean there is just no worse way to end a road trip then the way the Sixers ended theirs today. Still you can't fault the Sixers for playing their hearts out. Yeah the Sixers don't win too often anymore, but at the very least they play hard night in and night out, win or lose, and that's gotta count for something right?

FLYERS NEWS

Rangers 3 Flyers 2
It Was Over When....
The Ranger's Martin Straka scored with about 5:00 minutes to play in the 3rd period to put the Rangers ahead for good 3-1. Just before Straka's goal it appeared as if the Flyers were about to to score and tie the game at two, but after a Flyers shot skipped off the post Straka stole it away and streaked back down ice in the opposite direction and slipped a goal just past the outstretched pads of goalie Robert Esche to effectively sink the Flyers.
The Game Puck Goes To....
Guess who? Martin Straka who scored all 3 Ranger's goals on the night.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
2, as in only 2 goals scored by the Flyers on the night. In their last 3 games(all wins) the Flyers scored at least 3 goals, but tonight they only came up with 2, so it's no surprise that they lost tonight.
The Bottom Line Is....
Well, all good things must come to an end, and thus the Flyers winning streak did so tonight. However, the Flyers did play well tonight, they just got a little unlucky and obviously they're going to have to find a way to get all that luck back on their side if they hope to go on another winning streak.

SIXERS NEWS

Sixers 98 Jazz 87
It Was Over When....
The 3rd quarter ended. Through the 1st half the Sixers held the lead and initially stood their ground and continued to hold it as the 3rd quarter began, but by the time the quarter ended the Jazz had gone on a run and outscored the Sixers by 12 points to take an 8 point lead into the 4th quarter which they would not relinquish.
The Game Ball Goes To....
Deron Williams with 7 points and 14 assists, Carlos Boozer with 27 points and 14 rebounds, Mehmet Okur with 21 points and 7 rebounds, and Matt Harpring with 20 points off the bench.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
22, as in 22 turnovers on the night for the Sixers. The Sixers played a better game in just about every stastical area than did the Jazz, but because of all those turnovers they lost.
The Botttom Line Is....
Considering they were playing the team with the best record in the Western Conference and were without Chris Webber in the lineup the Sixers didn't do have bad tonight and if not for all those turnovers probably could have won. It's just too bad that they didn't.

SIXERS NEWS

Sixers 108 Nuggets 97
It Was Over When....
Samuel Dalembert slammed home a dunk with 6:31 remaining in the 3rd quarter. Following Sammy's dunk the Sixers went on to score 9 straight points and take a 13 point lead into the 4th quarter which they would never relinquish.
The Game Ball Goes To....
Andre Miller with 17 points and 10 assists, Andre Iguodala with 7 points, 10 assists, and 7 rebounds, Joe Smith ,starting in place of Chris Webber, with 12 points and 8 rebounds, Samuel Dalembert with 10 points and 6 rebounds, Steven Hunter with 13 points and 7 rebounds off the bench, and off course Kyle Korver with 26 points off the bench.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
1, as in 1 game in the history of the Sixer's franchise played against superstar Allen Iverson, and for that matter 1 win. Until now Iverson had been a Sixer for his entire career, but tonight he played alongside the Sixers wearing a different uniform for the first time.
The Bottom Line Is....
In their first game against former start Allen Iverson the Sixers disposed of him and his Nuggets convincingly and I don't know if there is anything else in this world that could possibly make the Sixer players feel any better than they feel now. So rather than promulgate on what this win means for the Sixers I am just going to do what they're probably doing right now and savor the victory.

FLYERS NEWS

Flyers 3 Islanders 2
It Was Over When....
The Final Buzzer sounded. Despite leading 3-0 with under 4 minutes to play in the 3rd period, the Flyers were still forced to hang on for the win as the Islanders heated up, scoring 2 goals with 3 minutes to play.
The Game Puck Goes To....
Mike Knuble, who scored the Flyers first goal of the night and assisted on what turned out to be the game winner late in the 3rd period by Ryan Potulny, and once again goalie Robert Esche who recorded 39 saves on the night and denied the Islanders the game tying goal in the final seconds.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
1, as in only 1 period played on the night by Flyers superstar Peter Forsberg who again had to leave a game early, this time due to a groin injury. However, the Flyers were actually able to win without him for once, and that's good sign for this team, considering that until now the Flyers had yet to win a game in which Forsberg didn't play in all 3 periods.
The Bottom Line Is....
This is 3 wins in a row for the Flyers now so who knows maybe the Flyers are finally ready to start turning things around.

EAGLES NEWS

Eagles 24 Falcons 17
It Was Over When....
Eagles backup QB A . J Feeley fired an 89 yard touchdown pass to Hank Baskett to put the Eagles up by the eventual final score of 24-17 with less than two minutes to play. Of course an eagles goal line stand on the Falcon's next offensive series also helped.
The Game Ball Goes To....
The Eagles offense which racked up 353 total yards and 24 points despite not employing any starters for the majority of the game. A.J Feeley led the way passing for 321 yards and 3 touchdowns, and Hank Baskett also put in his two sense with 7 catches for 177 yards and the aforementioned touchdown.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
0 as in 0 key Eagles lost to injuries on the day. Just the fact that none of the Eagles key players were injured today is big enough to be the stat of the game.
The Bottom Line Is....
Even before the game really got under way the Eagles were given a gift when the Cowboys lost to the Lions, thus clinching the division for the Eagles, and eliminating the need for them win this game in order to do so. Thus, this game pretty much turned into a preseason like game, so the real bottom line is that the Eagles are the 2006 NFC Eastern division champions and they will host the Giants at Lincoln Financial field next week in the wild card round of the playoffs and I just hope they win.

SIXERS NEWS

Lakers 104 Sixers 94
It Was Over When....
Kobe Bryant decided to take over the game in the 3rd quarter. Throughout the first half the Lakers tried unsuccessfully to pull away from the Sixers on the scoreboard, but the Sixers just kept finding a way hang around. As soon as the 3rd quarter began however, Bryant put the game on his shoulders and began scoring at will, as the Laker's lead ballooned first to 10 and then all the way to 17 by the 4th quarter and that was pretty much all she wrote.
The Game Ball Goes To....
Kobe Bryant with 35 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists, and Luke Walton, with 11 points and 7 rebounds.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
39.5 as in an abymsal 39.5 shooting percentage for the Sixers on the night. Basically if you can't hit any shots your'e not going to win.
The Bottom Line Is....
This isn't the way the Sixers wanted to ring in the new year, but hey want are you going to do.

FLYERS NEWS

Flyers 5 Hurricanes 2
It Was Over When....
The Flyer's Mike Knuble scored on the Hurricane's empty net with under 1 minute to play in the 3rd period. At the time it was 4-2 Flyers and the Hurricanes and their fans still had hope for a late rally but after Knuble's goal all hope was lost.
The Game Puck Goes To....
Peter Forsberg with 3 assists and Todd Fedoruk with 2 assists, and goalie Robert Esche who recorded 40 saves for the second game in a row . Incredibly, the Flyers 5 goals on the night were scored by 5 different players so we'll also collectively give a game puck to all the Flyers goal scorers on the night.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
19 and 5 as in a measily 19 shots on goal and an impressive 5 goals for the Flyers on the night. The Hurricanes on other hand fired a whopping 42 shots on goal yet came away with only 2 goals. Basically, the Flyers just took better advantage of their opportunities on the night.
The Bottom Line Is....
This is another big win for the Flyers and their 2nd in a row, not bad considering that they just endured a franchise record 10 game losing streak, but hey Forsberg is back in the lineup now and all that seems to be behind them and hopefully as long as Forsberg stays healthy the Flyers will keep winning.
