FLYERS NEWS
The Flyers continued their winning ways today. Marty Biron registered 42 more saves, and Mike Richards and Simon Gagne combined to score 3 goals, for a 3-2 overtime Flyers win over the Carolina Hurricanes. Gagne gave the Flyers an early 1-0 lead in the 1st period. After that Carolina took over for the next 45 minutes, forging ahead 2-1 heading into the 3rd period. However with Biron racking up save afte save, that score remained the same until, Mike Richards could score to tie it 2. Thanks' to Biron, the game went into overtime tied at 2, giving the Flyers the time they needed to pull out a win. Gagne scored early in the overtime period and the Flyers had won 3-2. So the Flyers are now 6-1 and remain on top of their division. May this hot streak never end

FLYERS NEWS
The Flyers stayed hot against the Devils tonight. Mike Richards, Sami Kapanen, Jim Dowd, and Joffrey Lupul each scored goals on the night. Martin Biron continued is brilliant play saving 38 shots on goal for his second shutout in a row, and the Flyers first such effort against the Devils since 1987. Through the first period the Flyers were listless, essentially lulling Devils goalie Martin Brodeur to sleep. Then in 2nd period the Flyers finally got to work. Richards scored first early in the period, then later in the period Kapanen and Dowd scored within minutes of each other. Finally Lupul put it way for good by tacking on a 4th goal in the 3rd period. The Devils nearly got one past Biron late in the period, but it was waived off, as it was ruled to have been kicked into the net. So the Flyers are now 5-1 and riding high in 1st place in the Atlantic Division. You can't beat the feeling.

FLYERS NEWS
More goals and more dazzling goaltending for the Flyers tonight as they defeated the struggling Atlanta Thrashers 4-0. Sami Kapanen, Jeff Carter, Mike Richards, and Randy Jones, scored the Flyer's goals on the night and Marty Biron pitched the shutout, with 31 saves on the night. The Game was scoreless through the 1st period as Thrasher goalie Johan Hedberg, looked as equally up to the task as Biron. Then in the 2nd period, the Flyers exploded for 3 goals, as Richards scored early in the period, and Kapanen and Carter scored seconds apart from each other with about 7 minutes to play in the period. Randy Jones added a 4th goal in the 3rd period, and just like that the Flyers got their 4th win of the season, to improve to 4-1. Considering they didn't get their 4th win last season until mid-November, I'd say the Orange and Black are back in business.

EAGLES NEWS
Well, it wasn't pretty but the Eagles returned from their bye week with a victory over the Jets. Kevin Curtis streaked to a 75 year old touchdown reception early in the 1st quarter, for the only touchdown of the day for either team. Donovan Mcnabb also had a pretty good day, completing 22 of his 35 passes, for 278 yards and a touchdown, and Brian Westbrook chipped in with 120 yards rushing on 20 carries. As for the Eagles' defense it bent several times against the Jets offense allowing 267 total yards, but it never broke, as the Jets went all day long without getting the ball across the goal line, and that proved to be the difference. The Eagles led early 7-3 on curtis' touchdown, than after missing two field goals earlier, David Akers drilled a 22 yard field goal, to increase the lead to 10-3. The Jets Mike Nugent added a field goal of his own later in the period and it was 10-6 at the half. Two more Aker's field goals in the 3rd quarter upped the Eagles lead to 16-6. Midway through the 4th quarter Nugent converted another field goal for the Jets to cut the lead to 16-9. Then, with just over a minute to play Donovan Mcnabb was intercepted deep inside his own territory. The Jets drove down to a 4th and 1 from the Eagles' 4 yard line and seemed on their way to tieing up at 17. However, the Jets inexplicably went for the touchdown, instead of the firstdown and Sheldon Brown batted away Chad Pennington's attempt at a touchdown pass. The Eagles took over on downs from there, and a couple long runs by Westbrook later, and they had won 16-9. So the Eagles save their season for now, and improve to 2-3. If truly hope to turn things around, and reach the playoffs though, they'll have to play better, particularly in the red zone, than they did today.
