Meanwhile, the Phils bat's supported Myer's supreme effort on this night with 4 runs on 10 hits. Now onto the game. In the bottom of the first, Jimmy Rollins, tripled and scored on a double by the "Flying Hawaiian" Shane Victorino who then scored on a single by Ryan Howard for a 2-0 Phil's lead. EAGLES NEWS

The Eagles and disgruntled running back Brian Westbrook have come to terms on a new 6 year deal. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but apparently it is very complicated and enough to please Westbrook and keep him in Eagles' green for years to come.

PHILLIES NEWS

After a tough series, dropping 2 of 3 to the Marlins, the Phils welcomed the Pittsburgh Pirates to the bank for a 3 game weekend set. Joe Blanton got the start and pitched well, limiting the buckos' to 0 runs on just 1 hit through 7 innings of work. Sadly, the Phils could not give him any run support as the game dragged into extra innings still scoreless. Finally in the top of the 12th, Steven Pearce doubled in one run, and Freddy Sanchez singled in a 2nd run for a 2-0 Phil's lead. Finally, in the bottom of the 9th, with one out and two on, Chase Utley slapped what appeared to be the potential game tying double, but Brandon Moss made a diving catch, and doubled the "Flyin Hawaiian" Shane Victorino, off first as he had strayed to far off the bag. So the Phils fell 2-0 in 12 innings and drop to 62-53 overall, now just 1 game up in the NL East.

EAGLES NEWS

The Eagles took one step closer to beginning a new season today, as they opened the preseason in Pittsburgh against the Steelers. Ultimately, they lost 16-10, but since this is the preseason that's not really that important, so let's talk about what is. First Donovan Mcnabb and the first string offense looked good, as Mcnabb completed 9 passes for 97 yards and a touchdown in limited action and the rookie Desean Jackson caught 5 balls for 51 yards. Meanwhile, the the first string defense did not look so good, allowing the Steelers to go on an 80 yard 8 play drive, capped off by a 19 yd touchdown pass from Ben Roethlisberger to Santonio Holmes. So all in all it was an uneven preseason debut for the Birds, but no worries, they still have 3 preseason games left to figure things out.

Unfortunately, the Phil's bat's were silenced by Chris Volstad through the first 6 innings on just 3 hits. Now onto the game. In the top of the 2nd, Matt Treanor singled in one run for a 1-0 Marlin's lead. In the top of the 6th, Josh Willingham doubled in a run for a 2-0 lead. In the top of the 7th, Cody Ross singled and scored on a fielder's choice for a 3-0 lead. From there on out the Phils had their chances to mount a comeback, but try as they might, they could not, as Kevin Gregg retired them relatively uneventfully to close out the 3-0 Marlin's win. So the Phils drop to 62-52 overall and back to just 1.5 games up on the Marlins in the NL East.

In the top of the 8th, Hermida singled in a run for a 5-2 lead. In the top of the 9th, Hanley Ramirez slapped a sac fly for one run, and Hermida singled with the bases loaded for two more, to put the fish up for good 8-2. SIXERS NEWS

The Sixers finally made it official today with one of their 2 high profile restricted free agents, signing Lou Williams to a 5 year $25 million deal. With kind of money table, you figure the Sixers must have some big plans for sweet Lou, but considering Andre Miller is still in town, it will still be miller time at the Wachovia center for at least another year, then perhaps Williams will become the starting PG, leading one of the most high-flying offensive attacks in the league. Until then though, he will be one hell of spark plug off the bench. So with Williams signed, that leaves only Andre Iguodala still left to come to terms with the Sixers on a new deal. If they can sign him as well, they'll be all set for next season and the years to come. In other Sixer's news, in the past few weeks the team also signed free agent guards Royal Ivey, a strong a backup pg, and Kareem Rush, a 3 point specialist, basically just some guys to add depth to the Sixer's roster, you know, just in case didn't sign. Fortunately, he has and so the Sixers now have more guards then they need, but that's a good problem to have so who cares.

In the bottom of the 2nd, Ryan Ludwick doubled and scored on a single by Troy Glaus for a 1-0 Card's lead. In the bottom of the 4th, Ludwick slammed a solo homer for a 2-0 Card's lead. In the top of the 6th, Chase Utley slugged a solo homer to cut the lead to 2-1. In the top of the 8th, Pat "the Bat" Burrell slapped an RBI single and the "Flyin Hawaiian" Shane Victorino crushed a 3 run homer to put the Phils ahead 5-2. In the bottom of the 8th, a throwing error by Ryan Howard allowed the Cardinals to cut the lead to 5-3. In the bottom of the 9th, with Brad Lidge on the mound, Troy Glaus homered to cut the lead to 5-4.
