SIXERS NEWS
Sixers 98 Trail Blazers 95
It Was Over When....
Blazer's guard Brandon Roy missed a layup with 2 seconds to play and the Sixers Andre Iguodala gathered in the resulting rebound. At the time it was 97-95 Sixers and the layup would likely have forced the game into overtime, but the miss effectively sealed the win for the Sixers.
The Game Ball Goes To....
Andre Miller with 25 points, 10 assists, and 7 rebounds, Andre Iguodala with a career and game high 32 points, 5 steals, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds, Samuel Dalembert with 10 points and 9 rebounds, and of course Kyle Korver with 19 points off the bench including three 3 pointers.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
8, as in only 8 turnovers on the night for the Sixers, to a whopping 15 for the Trailblazers. Basically the team with fewer turnovers on the night is usually the team who wins, especially when they also have 8 steals as the Sixers did tonight.
The Bottom Line Is....
After opening this long west coast trip, which they are currently on, with consecutive humiliating losses, the Sixers sorely needed the win that they got tonight. Now, at first it seemed that this too would be yet another humiliating loss as the Blazers led by 14 early in the second quarter, but impressive team defense and two determined Andres(Miller and Iguodala), helped the Sixers trim that deficit to 6 at the half and jump out to a 12 point lead in 3rd quarter which they would never relinquish despite a furious Blazers rally in the final moments. The most impressive thing about this win however, is not the Sixer defense but rather the fact that Chris Webber was out of tonight's game with another foot injury. Generally, you wouldn't think that the Sixers could win without Webber but tonight they proved that they could and hopefully that will give them thr confidence to finish this road trip with some more victories, but until then Aur revoir sports fans, and have a Happy New Years.

FLYERS NEWS
Flyers 4 Lightning 3
It Was Over When....
Sami Kapanen scored on a breakaway with 15.9 seconds remaining in the 2nd period to put the Flyers up for good 4-1.
The Game Puck Goes To....
Peter Forsberg with 3 assists, Simon Gagne who scored two goals, and goalie Robert Esche, playing in place of the injured Antero Niittymaki, who recorded 42 saves on the night.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
10, as in 10 straight losses by the Flyers coming into this game, and that's overall and against the Lightning. So this was a huge win the for the Flyers, unfortunately it's probably too little too late for them to save their season, but who knows.
The Bottom Line Is....
All I can say is thank God the Flyers finally got a win, and thank God Peter Forsberg is finally back in lineup, hopefully he'll stay there for the rest of the season, and the Flyers won't have anymore long losing streaks like the one they just ended.

SIXERS NEWS
Kings 101 Sixers 76
It Was Over When....
The 2nd quarter ended. The Kings outscored the Sixers 25-14 during the quarter and jumped out to an 11 point halfime lead from which the Sixes would never recover.
The Game Ball Goes To....
Mike Bibby with 21 points and 6 assists, Kevin Martin with 18 points, and Brad Miller with 13 points and 6 rebounds.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
0, as in 0 3 pointers made by the Sixers on the night, as even sharp shooter Kyle Korver went 0 for 1 from beyond arc. The Kings on the other hand, who came into the night as the worst 3 point shooting team in the NBA, hit 6 threes and as noted won going away.
The Bottom Line Is....
Apparently my optimism the other day was a bit premature, because the Sixers really stink now too.
FLYERS NEWS
Panthers 3 Flyers 1
It Was Over When....
Mike Van Ryn scored the Panthers 3rd and final goal of the night with about 11:00 minutes to play in the 3rd period. This goal put the Panthers up 3-1 and the way the Flyers played tonight it was clear there was no way they we would be able make a comeback.
The Game Puck Goes To....
Martin Gelinas who recorded 2 assists on the night, helping Jozef Stumpel and Rostislav Olesz to a goal each.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
0, as 0 minutes played by Flyer's goalie Antero Niittymaki in the 3rd period. Niittymaki left the game with an injury after the 2nd period. Perhaps if he had been in goal during the 3rd period the Flyers might have been able to stay close enough to mount a comeback.
The Bottom Line Is....
The Flyers really stink right now, nuff said.

SIXERS NEWS
Warriors 116 Sixers 97
It Was Over When....
The Warriors touched the ball. The fast-breaking Warriors raced out to an early 20-9 lead just 6 minutes into the game and never looked back.
The Game Ball Goes To....
Baron Davis with 21 points and 16 assists, former Sixer, Matt Barnes, with 25 points and 8 rebounds, and Andres Biedrins with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
Since Golden State dominated nearly every facet of the game, we'll just go with 25, as in a career high 25 points scored by Sixers' rookie Rodney Carney. Although it came in a losing cause, it's always encouraging to see a young guy like Carney post a career high in points scored.
The Bottom Line Is....
This was total domination from start to finish by the Warriors. The Sixers simply could not catch up to the Warriors speedy fast break. Still, there were some encouraging performances for the Sixers on the night. Andre Miller looked good in his first start as a Sixer with 14 points and 7 assists, and as mentioned rookie Rodney Carney posted a career high in points with 25. In the end however, this was an ugly night for the Sixers but they had won two in a row coming into this game, so hopefully they can come back with a win in their next game which is tomorrow in Sacramento.

EAGLES NEWS
Eagles 23 Cowboys 7
It Was Over When....
Correll Buckhalter capped off a 70 yard drive with a 1 yard touchdown run, putting the Eagles up for good 23-7, with about 8:00 minutes left to play in the game.
The Game Ball Goes To....
The Eagles' offense which amassed 426 total yards(222 passing and 204 rushing) and chewed up over 37 minutes of game clock. Jeff Garcia who passed for 153 yards and 1 touchdown, and Brian Westbrook ,who rushed for 122 yards on 26 carries, led the way, but in the end, the night proved to be a total team effort as the only touchdowns scored by the Eagles on the night went to backup tight end Matt Schobel, and backup running back Correll Buckhalter as previously stated.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
205, as in 205 rushing yards for the Eagles on the night. Incredibly, the Cowboy's have not allowed a team to rush for that many yards against them at Texas Stadium since 2000 when the 49ers rushed for 261 yards against them, during the game in which Terrell Owens, then with the Niners danced around on the Cowboy star in the middle of the field after scoring a touchdown.
The Bottom Line Is....
This was the best Christmas gift I received today. Sorry Mom, but this was what I really wanted for Christmas and I got it. With this win the Eagles not only sweep the season series against the Cowboys, which is pretty sweet in and of itself, but they clinch a playoff spot and take over 1st place in the NFC East as well. In fact, if they win next week they will be the 2006 NFC Eastern division champs and you know something, I probably still won't believe it. Anyway, Merry Christmas to all and to all an E-A-G-L-E-S, Eagles.
