SIXERS NEWS

The Sixers began a key road trip this afternoon in Miami as they looked to put an end to their current losing streak. Unf0rtunately, despite a heroic effort by Andre Miller, who scored 30 while playing with a strained calf muscle, the Sixers came up short again. Once again they struggled from the field at just 37% and once again their opponents shot well from the field at 51%. That just won't win you too many ballgames. Nothing was decided in the first half of the game as the two teams ended the half tied at 40. In the 3rd quarter Miami pushed ahead by 4 with the score 67-63 heading into the 4th quarter. The Sixer then attempted to rally back in the 4th quarter but they simply ran out of time as the shots just didn't fall for them late in the game. Eventually Miami hung to win by 6 with the final score 97-91. So the Sixers drop back to .500 at 27-27 overall and remain 7th in the Eastern conference.

FLYERS NEWS

The Flyers welcomed the PittsBurgh Penguins to the Wachovia center tonight. The Penguins came in having just recently falllen out of the top 8 in the Eastern conference. Thus they were desperate for a win to keep their season a live and played liked it. They simply wanted it a little bit more than the Flyers did tonight and in the end a goal and 2 assists by Mike Richards was not enough to hold off the Pens. Marty Biron also did not have his best night, saving just 22 of the 27 shots he faced. Late in the period Joffrey Lupul scored for a 1-0 lead. Just seconds into the 2nd period "the kid" Sidney Crosby tied it up at 1 for the Pens. A few minutes later Evgeni Malkin scored off the power play for a 2-1 Pens lead. Then late in the period ex-Flyer Ruslan Fedotenko made it 3-1. Early in the 3rd period Richards scored shorthanded to cut it to 3-2 and a few minutes later Braydon Coburn scored off a Richards assist to knot it up at 3. A few minutes later Fedotenko put the Pens back up 4-3. Then late in the period Richards assisted Mike Knuble on another game tier. Finally a few minutes later Crosby scored to finish off the Orange and Black 5-4. So the Flyers drop to 31-17-9 overall but remain 4th in the Eastern conference

SIXERS NEWS

The Sixers returned to the Wachovia center tonight for a matchup with mr.big shot, Chauncey Billups, and the Denver Nuggets. They were looking to find their footing in the second half of the season after a rocky start against the Pacers last night. Unfortunately, it was just more of the same tonight against the Nuggets. The Sixers again struggled from the field shooting just 32%. To make matters worse Andre Miller went down with an injury and it is still unknown how serious it is. Without him, Lou Williams would be the starting point guard with no one backing him up. Hopefully Miller's injury isn't too serious. Anyway back to the game, if nothing else Maurice Speights did get back on track tonight with 11 points and 10 rebounds. The Sixers did play well for a half with a 10 point, 47-37 lead at the half. In the 2nd half Miller went down and the Sixers just seemed to run out of gas. By the 4th quarter Denver had rallied ahead by 3 with the score 71-68. In the 4th quarter Denver pulled away for good eventually winning by 12 with the final score 101-89. So the Sixers drop their 2nd in a row to fall to 27-26 overall and 7th in the Eastern conference.

SIXERS NEWS

The Sixers returned from the all star break tonight as they traveled to Indianapolis for a matchup against the Pacers. They were looking to pick up where they left off before the break on a 4 game winning streak. Instead they came out rusty, shooting just 38% from the field and 13% from beyond the arc in a close loss. The Defense was okay with 11 steals, but it didn't matter as the shots just didn't fall tonight for the Sixers. Andre Iguodala was the only bright spot for the Sixers with a game high 20 points and 9 assists. Meanwhile, Maurice Speights, the Sixer spark plug just before the break, registered 0 points, rebounds, or blocks on the night. He'll need to wake up again if the Sixers are to get going again. Anyway back to the game, the Pacers lead early by 10 after a quarter of play and by 11 at the half with the score 55-44. By the 4th quarter the lead was up to 17 with the score 80-63. Finally in the 4th quarter the Sixers mounted a rally but it was too little too late and the Sixers eventually succumbed by9 with the final score 100-91. So the Sixers drop to 27-25 overall and into 6th in the Eastern conference.

SIXERS NEWS

The NBA All star game was tonight in Phoenix and once again no Sixers participated as Andre Iguodala was snubbed for the 2nd year in a row. Without him, and with Chris Bosh out with an injury, leaving Dwight Howard as the only center on the East roster, the East never had a chance, as a reunited Shaq and Kobe Co-MVPed the West to a convincing 146-119 win.
