After knocking off the Islanders yesterday afternoon, the Flyers traveled to New York this afternoon for a matchup with the Rangers, as they looked to complete a weekend sweep of New York. Marty Biron remained in goal and produced another solid effort saving 35 of the 37 shots he faced. Meanwhile, Claude Giroux posted a goal and 2 assists to power the Flyers offense to an easy win. Early in the 1st period Giroux scored for a 1-0 lead. Early in the 2nd period Mike Richards scored shorthanded for a 2-0 lead. Giroux assisted Matt Carle a few minutes later for a 3-0 lead. Seconds later Glen Metropolit scored for a 4-0 lead. Finally a minute later Giroux assisted Jeff Carter for a 5-0 lead. Late in the period Lauri Korpikoski finally got New York on the board cutting the lead to 5-1. Late in the 3rd period Nickolai Zherdev scored to cut it to 5-2. From there Biron ensured that the New York would not mount a comeback and the Orange and Black hung on to win 5-2. So the Flyers move to 30-16-9 overall for 69 points and still 4th in the Eastern conference.
