Vance Worley meet King Felix. In his first start in the majors since being lit up by the Reds, Worley went up against the reigning AL CY Young award winner and low and with an assist from the bullpen, he out-dueled him. In 5 innings, Worley allowed just 1 run on 5 hits while Hernandez allowed 3 runs on 8 hits in 7 innings. Ryan Howard hit a deep sac fly in the 1st inning for a 1-0 lead. Shane Victorino slapped a 2 out 2 run double for a 3-1 lead. Finally after Micheal Stutes and Antonio Bastardo combined for scoreless frames in the 6th, 7th, and 8th inning, Victorino put the nail in Seattle's coffin with a 2 run shot for a 5-1 lead in the 9th inning. Ryan Madson closed things out from there and the Phils had their 45th win of the season and a 6 game lead in the NL East.

PHILLIES NEWS
The Phils rode a 7 game winning streak coming into Seattle tonight, but they were no match for rookie of the year candidate Micheal Pineda, who held them to just 1 run on 2 hits in 6 innings. Meanwhile, Roy Oswalt allowed 4 runs on 8 hits while striking out 3 in 6 and 1/3rd innings. Shane Victorino did launch a solo homer in the 8th to briefly spur hope of a Phils comeback, but they couldn't put anything together after that as they lost 4-2. Still despite the loss, they remain 5 games up in the NL East and lead the Majors in wins by 2 over the Red Sox.

PHILLIES NEWS
The Phils continued their hot streak and the Marlins continued to flounder today in a day night doubleheader. In the first half of the doubleheader, Ryan Howard slapped an RBI double, Wilson Valdez lined a 3 run triple, and Jimmy Rollins slammed a 3 run homer and an RBI single, while Kyle Kendrick tossed 7 effective innings, allowing just 1 run on 5 hits and striking out 5. All together it was more than enough for another easy 8-1 win. Later in the 2nd half of the the doubleheader, Roy Halladay provided less than his best performance, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits while striking out 8. However, his battery mate bailed him out. With 1 out and the Phils down 2 in the 9th, Carlos Ruiz singled to start a 2 run rally capped off by Shane Victorino's 2 run single. Later with 2 out in the 10th Ruiz rolled a game winning single back up the middle to cap the doubleheader sweep with a 5-4 win.

PHILLIES NEWS
The Phils resumed their homestand tonight as they began an important series with the Marlins. Cole Hamels got the start in this one and was brilliant again, allowing just 1 run on 3 hits while striking 6 in 7 innings. He did leave at the beginning of the 8th with tightness in his back, but it didn't appear to be serious. Meanwhile the Phils had arguably their best offensive spurt of the season thus far, racking up 9 runs on 11 hits, including 4 homers. Ryan Howard got things started with a 2 run blast in the 1st. Later in the 3rd inning, Chase Utley added a 2nd 2 run shot. Dom Brown lined a solo shot in the 4th. Placido Polanco added a sac fly in the 5th. Jimmy Rollins added a 3rd 2 run jack in the 6th. Finally in the 7th Brown tatooed a solo bomb into the 2nd deck in right for a 9-1 lead and that would be all the Phils would need. David Herndon tossed 2 scoreless frames to finish night and the Phils 41st win of the season. With the win they move to 3.5 games up in the NL East and continue to lead the majors in wins.

Roy Oswalt allowed 3 runs in the 1st inning, but recovered nicely with 6 scoreless frames and 5 strikeouts to finish his day. Meanwhile, Ryan Howard keyed the offense going 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs. He got things started with an RBI double in the 1st inning to cut the lead to 3-1. Later in the 3rd inning, a single by Howard, a walk by Ben Francisco, and another single by Raul Ibanez cut it to 3-2. Finally in the 7th inning Howard laced a 2 run single up the middle for a 4-3 Phils lead. From there Micheal Stutes rolled through a 1-2-3 8th inning and Ryan Madson barely survived his 15th save of the season in the 9th, after another Geovanny Soto homer bid went just foul. The 4-3 win is the Phils 40th of the season thus far and keeps them 2 games up in the NL East.
