The Phils resumed their homestand tonight as they began an important series with the Marlins. Cole Hamels got the start in this one and was brilliant again, allowing just 1 run on 3 hits while striking 6 in 7 innings. He did leave at the beginning of the 8th with tightness in his back, but it didn't appear to be serious. Meanwhile the Phils had arguably their best offensive spurt of the season thus far, racking up 9 runs on 11 hits, including 4 homers. Ryan Howard got things started with a 2 run blast in the 1st. Later in the 3rd inning, Chase Utley added a 2nd 2 run shot. Dom Brown lined a solo shot in the 4th. Placido Polanco added a sac fly in the 5th. Jimmy Rollins added a 3rd 2 run jack in the 6th. Finally in the 7th Brown tatooed a solo bomb into the 2nd deck in right for a 9-1 lead and that would be all the Phils would need. David Herndon tossed 2 scoreless frames to finish night and the Phils 41st win of the season. With the win they move to 3.5 games up in the NL East and continue to lead the majors in wins.
