Roy Halladay fought through a rain delay to deliver 7 solid innings, allowing just 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 7. Meanwhile, Wilson Valdez sac fly in the 2nd and Carlos Ruiz solo shot in the 4th helped the Phils twice rally back from a 1 run down. Micheal Stutes, Antonio Bastardo, and Juan Perez combined outstandingly to keep the score knotted at 2 through 9 and 1/2 innings. Perez's performance was especially outstanding, in fact it was a perfect 9 pitch, 9 strike, 1-2-3 outing, the first by a Phil in extra innings in 20 years and the first ever by a pitcher who went on to win the game. Speaking of winning, Perez sparkling top of the 10th, set the stage for Raul slam a screaming liner into the right field seats with 1 out in the bottom of the 10th for a 3-2 win. The win is the Phil's 56th of the season and moves them back to 3.5 games up in the NL East.

He has been nursing a sore numb this week and there are some doubts about whether he'll be able to play, but hopefully it will heal in time.

John Mayberry Jr. homered twice and Jimmy Rollins once, while Kyle Kendrick allowed just 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out 2 in 5 innings to help the Phils build an early 6-3 lead. It could have been 7-3, but right before Mayberry's 2nd homer, Dom Brown was called out for missing 2nd while legging out a triple even though replays seemed to show he didn't. That 1 run came back to haunt the Phils later as their injury depleted bullpen failed to hold the lead. David Herndon and Drew Carpenter combined to to give up the lead, in the 6th and 7th innings, while Micheal Stutes and Danys Baez combined to preserve the 6-6 tie through 9 innings. Unfortunately Baez wasn't so lucky in the 9th as Mike Stanton lined a solo shot into the seats for a 7-6 Marlins win. Despite the loss the Phils still have the best record in baseball, but now lead the NL East by only 3 games over the Atlanta Braves as the two teams prepare for a weekend series.

PHILLIES NEWS

Offensively, it has been a struggle for the Phils much of the season and with Shane Victorino out tonight that struggle figured out to continue. Don't tell that to Chris Volstad or the sad sack Marlins who could only sit and watch helplessly as the Phils exploded for 14 runs on 18 hits. Ryan Howard went for 3 for 4 with a homer, a double, and 4 RBIs, Micheal Martinez had a bases clearing triple and 2 run scored, Jimmy Rollins went 4 for 5 with 3 runs scored, Raul Ibanez went 3 for 5 with a homer and 3 RBIs, Dom Brown went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, Wilson Valdez clubbed a 2 run double, and Ben Francisco had a pinch double and a run scored. Meanwhile, Cole Hamels shut down the Marlins, allowing just 2 runs on 8 hits while striking out 5 in 8 innings and Scott Mathieson came on in relief in the 9th inning and was somewhat effective in scoreless 9th inning. Put it all together and you get a laughable 14-2 Phils win. If only they could all be like this one.

Cliff Lee's scoreless streak came to end at 34 this afternoon in Toronto, as the Jays roughed him up for 7 runs on 10 hits in 7 and 1/3rd innings as the Phils fell 7-4. The Phils actually led 4-0 early on with 4 runs in the 2nd on singles by Ben Francisco and Jimmy Rollins, and a double by Carlos Ruiz. Unfortunately, Lee couldn't hold the lead, allowing 3 homeruns in the 8th inning to seal the Blue Jay victory. In other news Placido Polanco, Cole Hamels, Roy Halladay, and Cliff Lee were all named to 2011 NL All Star team today. Shane Victorino could become 5th member of Phils on the all-star if he receives the fans final vote.
