Tonight the Phils continued their series with the Rangers, with the second of a 3 game set. In a desperate need of a win the Phils turned to staff ace Cole Hamels to stop the bleeding. While allowing just 4 runs on 6 hits in 7 tough innings of work, Hamels was able to do just that. Now onto the game. In the bottom of the first, Micheal Young slammed a 2 run homer for a 2-0 Ranger's lead. In the top of the 2nd, Jayson Werth slapped a 2 run single and Pedro Feliz scored on a wild pitch for a 3-2 Phils' lead. In the top of the 3rd, Chase Utley slugged a solo homer, and Ryan Howard crushed a 2 run homer for a 6-2 Phils' lead. In the bottom of the 5th, Jarod Saltalamacchia doubled in a run and scored on a single by Ian Kinsler to cut the lead to 5-4. In the top of the 6th, Jimmy Rollins tripled in a run for a 7-4 Phils' lead. In the top of the 7th, Utley doubled in another run for an 8-4 Phils' lead. In the bottom of the 8th the Rangers scored a couple of cheap 2 out runs on a single and a bases loaded walk to cut the lead to 8-6. Finally in the bottom of the 9th, Brad Lidge put the Rangers down for the count, striking out the side after allowing a couple hits. So the Phils improve to 44-38 overall, and move back to 2 games up in the NL East.

PHILLIES NEWS
After a tough series with the A's the Phils continued on their road trip to Texas for a 3 game set with the Rangers. Brett Myers got the start tonight and struggled mightily allowing 5 runs on 5 hits in just 2 innings of work, not the way to help your team win. Now onto the game. In the bottom of the 1st, Ian Kinsler slammed a solo homer for a 1-0 Ranger's lead. In the top of the 3rd, Eric Bruntlett walked and scored on a fielder's choice, and Pedro Feliz slugged a grand slam for a 5-1 Phils' lead. In the bottom of the 3rd, Joe Hamilton singled in a run, Dave Murphy forced in a run with a bases loaded walk, Hamilton scored on a fielder's choice, and Chris Davis crushed a 2 run homer for a 6-5 Ranger's lead. In the top of the 4th, Chris Coste hit a solo shot to knot it up at 6. In the bottom of the 5th, Milton Bradley slapped another solo shot for a 7-6 Ranger's lead. In the bottom of the 8th, Kinsler walked, stole second, and scored on a sac fly by Hamilton for an 8-6 Ranger's lead. Finally in the top of the 9th, the Phils made one final stand, as Jayson Werth led off with a homer to cut the lead to 8-7, and a double by Pat "the Bat" Burrell and a single by Ryan Howard put two runners on with two out for Greg Dobbs. Unfortunately Dobbs grounded out to end it in an 8-7 Ranger's win, so the Phils drop to 43-38 overall but remain 1st in the NL East by just 1 game now.

PHILLIES NEWS
The Phils finished off their 3 game set with the A's this afternoon. Unfortunately, they ran into a buzz saw in Rich Harden who blanked them on just 2 hits while striking out 11. They were simply no match for Harden's smoke. Now onto the game. In the bottom of the first, Ryan Sweeney doubled in a run and scored on a single by Jack Cust for a 2-0 A's lead. In the bottom of the 6th, Carlos Gonzalez slammed a solo homer for a 3-0 A's lead. In the bottom of the 8th, Jack Hanahan doubled in a run and scored on a throwing error by the "Flyin Hawaiian" Shane Victorino for a 5-0 A's lead. Finally in the top of the 9th, Alan Embree put the Phils down after allowing Pat "the Bat " Burrell, yes Pat the Bat, to slap a 2 out triple. So the Phils struggles continue as they drop to 43-37 overall, but remain 2 games up in the NL East.
SIXERS NEWS
Tonight was a big night for the Sixers, as they took part in the 2008 NBA draft, their first under GM Ed Stefanski. With the 16th pick of the first round they selected Florid forward Mareese Speights. At 6-11 and the 4th leading rebounder in the SEC last season Speights gives them size, which is what they needed, but he also packs more potential than immediately translatable skills. So don't expect him to come right in and help the Sixers right away. However, the potential is there for him to be a great scorer and rebounder. He just needs to improve his toughness and competitive fire and then maybe, just maybe he'll reach that potential. Now the Sixers did not have a second round pick and did not execute any trades, so this selection quickly ended their night. Given that this is guy they wanted all along, it couldn't have been too bad of night, all be it a quick one.

Now onto the game. In the top of the first, Pat "the Bat" Burrell slapped a sac fly for a 1-0 Phil's lead. In the top of the 4th, Burrell singled and scored on a triple by Pedro Feliz, and Chris Coste slapped another sac fly for a 3-0 Phil's lead. Finally in the bottom of the 9th, J.C Romero, who blew it yesterday came in and closed out the A's relatively uneventfully, after issuing a two out walk. PHILLIES NEWS
Tonight the Phils traveled out to Oakland to begin a 3 game set with the A's. The veteran Jamie Moyer got the start tonight as he looked to end the Phils recent skid with a masterful performance, allowing just 3 runs on 5 hits in 6 and 2/3rd innings of work, more than good enough for the Phils to get a win. However, the Phils recent silent bats still had a chance to get in the way. Now onto the game. In the top of the 4th, Pat "the Bat" Burrell slammed a solo homer for a 1-0 Phils' lead. In the bottom of the 7th, Emil Brown Slugged a 3 run homer for a 3-1 A's lead. In the top of the 8th, the "Flyin Hawaiian" Shane Victorino singled, stole second, and scored on a single by Ryan Howard to cut the lead to 3-2. In the bottom of the 8th, Jack Cust crushed a solo homer for a 5-2 A's lead. Finally Huston Street put the Phils down in order in the 9th. So the Phils skid balloons to 6 games. However, by the grace of God the Phils remain 1st in the NL East by 1 game.

In the bottom of the 3rd, Ryan Howard slapped an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-1. In the bottom of the 7th, Jimmy Rollins doubled in a run to cut the lead to 3-2.
