The Phils continued their winning ways against the Padres this afternoon as Kyle Kendrick turned in a solid outing, allowing just 3 runs on 6 hits over 5 and 2/3rd's innings. Thank's to Chase Utley's 3 run homer in the 1st inning that outing was just enough to keep the Phils in it through 6. A power surge in the 7th inning took care of the rest. First, on the very first pitch of the home half of the 7th, Ryan Howard crushed a solo homer to tie the game at 4. A couple batters later Micheal Martinez lined a 3 run shot into the seats to make it 7-4 and finally a couple batters after that Utley connected on his second blast of the night for an 8 -4 lead. In the end that turned out to be just enough for the win after Antonio Bastardo had a shaky 8th inning had to be bailed out by David Herndon with the score 8-6 and the bases loaded. Luckily Ryan Madson was not as shaky in the 9th as he sealed the 8-6 win, the Phils 63rd of the season, which moves them back to 5 games up in the NL East.

PHILLIES NEWS
After getting bounced around by the Mets in his first start after the break, Cole Hamels rebounded nicely tonight against his hometown team, the Padres, allowing just 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 10, in 8 strong innings. Meanwhile, Carlos Ruiz double in the 2nd inning, and Chris Luebke's balk and John Mayberry's subsequent double in the 4th inning gave the Phils an early 3-0 lead. Thanks to Hamels, and then Ryan Madson, who grabbed his 1st save since coming off the DL with 1-2-3 9th, that was enough to hang on for a 3-1 win.

Vance Worley gave the Phils exactly what they needed this afternoon, allowing just 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 7 in 8 brilliant innings. The top 3 men in the lineup provided most of scoring, with Jimmy Rollins going 3 for 5 for 3 RBIs and 4 runs scored, Chase Utley going 2 for 3 for 2 RBIs and a run scored, and unsung hero Micheal Martinez going 2 for 5 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. With the win, their 61st of the season, the Phils move back to 4.5 games up in the NL East.

Cliff Lee did enough to keep the Phils in it early on, allowing just 2 runs on 8 hits in 6 innings. Micheal Stutes and Antonio Bastardo took things from there, combining for 3 scoreless frames to finish the night. Meanwhile, Chase Utley ripped a 2 run double in the 8th inning and Micheal Martinez blooped a 2 out 2 run double in the 9th as the Phils rallied to win 4-2, their 60th win of the season thus far.

PHILLIES NEWS
Roy Halladay and the Phils couldn't handle the 99 degree heat in Chicago tonight. Halladay, suffering from dehydration, was forced to leave after allowing 3 runs on 7 hits in just 4 innings of work. The Phils, already down 3-1, never really recovered, eventually losing 6-1. Jimmy Rollins accounted for the Phils only run with a solo shot in the 4th inning. Halladay has already said he will make his next scheduled start, so don't worry about him. Ultimately this is just another one in the books that the Phils will have to quickly forget.

PHILLIES NEWS
Kyle Kendrick survived 7 innings, allowing just 1 run on 6 hits. Meanwhile, Micheal Martinez belted a 3 run shot in the 5th inning, the first homer of his career, to put the Phils up 4-0. Later Jimmy Rollins slapped a 2 out 2 run single in the 8th inning, to put the Phils up for good 8-1. Still, the Mets didn't give up and it was a bit of an adventure for Juan Perez, Ryan Madson, and Antonio Bastardo to close things out as they combined to allow 3 runs on 2 hits in the final 2 innings before hanging on for an 8-5 win.
