PHILLIES NEWS

Thanks to their washout yesterday the Phils and Mets engaged in a doubleheader today. In game 1 Cole Hamels was brilliant allowing just 1 run on 4 hits in 7 innings, but the Phils managed only 1 run on 5 hits of their own en route to dropping their 7th straight game 2-1. In game 2, Joe Blanton threw 2 scoreless innings and the Phils jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Then Blanton left for the night all heck broke loose. By the time it was over the Phils had lost their 8th in a row, 6-3.

FLYERS NEWS

Jaromir Jagr made his preseason debut with the Flyers tonight and was impressive. He hooked up with James Van Reimsdyk on a goal in the 1st period and then scored a goal of his own in the 2nd period as the Flyers defeated the Reds Wings 3-1, evening their preseason record at 2 games a piece.

PHILLIES NEWS

The Phils and Mets were washed out tonight and will play a doubleheader tomorrow instead.

PHILLIES NEWS

Roy Oswalt pitched into the 8th inning but allowed 6 runs as the Phils dropped their 6th straight with a 6-1 loss to the Nats. John Mayberry Jr. doubled and scored in the 9th inning to give the Phils their only run of the night.

FLYERS NEWS

It was an eventful evening for Wayne Simmonds who scored the game tying goal late in regulation and then had a banana thrown at him as he leadoff a shootout with a score. Unfortunately, despite Simmonds heroics, the Flyers lost to the Red Wings in the shootout 4-3.

FLYERS NEWS

Ilya Bryzgalov's preseason debut wasn't quite what the Flyers were hoping for as he let in 3 goals in a 4-2 to the Maple Leafs.

PHILLIES NEWS

Vance Worley allowed just 4 runs on 6 hits and roped an RBI single in the 2nd inning but the Phils still dropped their 5th in a row in a 7-5 loss to the Nationals

FLYERS NEWS

The Flyers opened their preseason with an impressive win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Zac Rinaldo, Wayne Simmonds, Mike Testwuide, and the rookie Sean Couturier all scored, and Sergei Bobrovsky pitched a 27 save shutout in a 4-0 win.

PHILLIES NEWS

Again thanks to a makeup game, the Phils and Nationals played a doubleheader today. In the first game Kyle Kendrick tossed 6 shutout innings and Raul Ibanez bashed a late 3 run homer but it wasn't enough as the Phils dropped their 3rd game in a row 4-3. In the night cap Cliff Lee tried his hand at ending the losing streak be he too was unsuccessful, allowing 3 runs on 11 hits in 7 innings in a 3-0 loss, as the Phils managed just 3 hits.

Roy Halladay was not his usual sharp self in allowing 4 runs on 6 hits and a 9th inning Phils rally fell a little short as they dropped another game to the Cardinals 4-3.

EAGLES NEWS

The Eagles racked up 447 yards of offense but Mike Vick went down with a neck injury late in the 3rd quarter and with him went their chances. Eventually the Eagles ended up blowing a 10 point 4th quarter lead en route to a heartbreaking 35-31 loss.

PHILLIES NEWS

The slightly disinterested Phils were quite frankly outplayed by the desperate Cardinals tonight as Chris Carpenter shut them down 5-0.
