The Phils kept rolling tonight. Roy Halladay was not at his best tonight, allowing 4 homers. However, all of them were solo, and in 7 innings Halladay allowed only 3 other hits and struck out 6 to keep the Phils in it. The Phils bats took care of the rest. The Brew Crew got off the deck first with solo homers by Prince Fielder, and Alcides Escobar in the top of the 2nd. In the home half of the second Ryan Howard and Jayson Werth bashed back to back solo shots to tie it up at 2. In the top of the 3rd Corey Hart entered the homer party with another solo shot to lead off the 3rd. The Phils came right back again in the home half of the 3rd with Chase Utley ripping a 1 out RBI single to tie it at 3.
With 2 outs and nobody on in the top of the 7th, Corey Hart spoiled Halladay's exit from the game with another solo shot for a 4-3 lead. Fortunately Halladay did the next batter, Ryan Braun to ground out to end the inning, setting the stage for a dramatic home half of the 7th. There back to back singles by Shane Victorino and Carlos Ruiz, and a pinch walk if you will, by Wilson Valdez, loaded the bases with the nobody out for Jimmy Rollins. Rollins picked the wrong pitch to swing at and grounded into a fielder's choice. The Next batter Placido Polanco lofted a fly ball to right center, which probably shouldn't have been enough to score Ruiz from 3rd but Ryan Braun's throw home was off the mark and Ruiz scored easily as the ball went to the back stop.
Rookie pitcher, Zach Braddock failed to properly cover behind home plate and So Wilson Valdez was able to sneak home and score the go head run for a 5-4 Phils lead. From there J.C Romero combined for a scoreless 8th and Brad Lidge wrapped up his 20th save of the season with a 1-2-3 inning. Unfortunately the Braves both won again today as well so the Phils remain 1 game back in the NL East and 3 games up in the NL Wild Card race. Not a bad place to be

EAGLES NEWS
It was very busy day for the Birds as they looked to whittle their roster down to the 53 player limit. First they traded Stacy Andrews to the Seattle Seahawks for a 2011 draft pick. Then they sent a 7th round pick to the Baltimore Ravens for DE/LB Antwon Barnes. If the Eagles didn't already have a enough depth at DE they do now with the versatile Barnes. Aside from those 2 moves the Eagles also cut 13 players, including Chad Hall, Jeff Owens, Kelley Washingon, Macho Harris, Quintin Demps, Cornelius Ingram, and Max Jean Gilles. However, with Andrews traded away for nothing the Birds were left with only 52 players. So most likely Gilles will re-sign with the Birds and become the 53rd and final player on the roster. Likewise with Harris, that opened the door for the recently acquired Jorrick Calvin to actually make the team as the final CB on the roster.

PHILLIES NEWS
Naturally after a 12-11 slug fest at Coor the Phils returned to the Bank tonight and engaged in a pitcher's duel. Luckily Cole Hamels was up for the challenge tossing 7 scoreless innings on just 3 hits while striking out 7. He did get into one jam in the 7th with runners on 1st and second and nobody out. He got out of it though with a fly out, a foul out, and finally a strikeout of Alcides Escobar, all on changeups.
The Phils meanwhile, didn't much more luck in the running scoring department. Carlso Ruiz grounded into a fielder's choice with 1 out in the 2nd inning to push across the Phils only run, as Chris Capuano held them to just 1 run on 4 hits over 5 strong innings. So it was 1-0 Phils heading into the 8th inning. There Jose Contreras retired the side in order to preserve the lead. Then in the 9th Ryan Madson did the same after Prince Fielder just missed a game tying homer. With the win, the Phils' 77th of the season and losses by the Braves and Giants the Phils move just 1 game back in the NL East and 3 games up in the wild card race.

The Eagles made an interesting roster move today sending a 6th round pick to the Cardinals for guard Reggie Wells. Wells started every game last year for the Cards and is capable of playing at guard and tackle. He's solid insurance in case things don't work out with Stacy Andrews this season. His arrival also signals the departure for the one of Eagles who was fighting for a spot lower on the depth chart last night. It will be interesting to see who.

PHILLIES NEWS
The Phils traveled to Colorado tonight for a one night stand with the Rockies, to make up a game that was previously washed out. Not surprisingly, both teams looked a little less than lucid, which made for an error filled night. The pitching for both teams was ineffective as a result and a good old fashioned Coors field slug fest ensued. Colorado struck first with 4 runs in the 2nd. Raul Ibanez started to bring the Phils back with an RBI single in the 4th to cut it to 4-1. Chase Utley added a sac fly to cut it to 4-2 in the 5th. In the home of the 5th Colorado extended their lead 6-2. The Phils had a golden opportunity to come all the way back with the bases loaded and 1 out in the 6th, but after Mike Sweeney took a pitch off the hand to force in one run, Jimmy Rollins hit into a double play, wasting the opportunity.
Antonio Bastardo got himself into a real jam with the bases loaded and nobody out in the home half of the 6th, but somehow he got out of it having allowed just 1 run when Melvin Mora just missed a grand slam. The Rockies inability to blow it open in the 6th would come back to haunt them. Down 7 -3 heading into the 7th, the Phils exploded for 9 runs and 12-7 lead. Utley singled in a run, Ryan Howard crushed a 3 run homer, Jayson Werth slammed a game tying solo homer, Ben Francisco slapped a pinch RBI single and finally Utley came back up and hooked a grand slam just inside the line. You would think that would have put the Rockies away for good. It didn't. 3 runs in the 7th cut it to 12-10. Another run in the 9th cut it to 12-11 before Brad Lidge finally got Ryan Spillborghs to ground into a game ending fielder's choice. With the Giants idle the Phils pull 2 games up in the wild card and within 2 games of the Braves in the NL East as they finally lost.

EAGLES NEWS
The Eagles dropped their last preseason game to the Jets 21-17. The starters did not play at all. Instead backups still in search of roster spots ruled the night, most notably S Kurt Coleman and LB Moise Fokou. Coleman returned 2 TDs for touchdowns, the first Eagle in history to do so in one game. Fokou led the team in tackles with 10. Even though he didn't need to lock up a spot, rookie CB Trevar Lindley looked pretty good as well. Mike Vick played the 1st quarter at QB and was pretty good completing 3 of 5 passes for 56 yards, while rushing twice for 11 yards. Mike Kafka played the rest of the way and struggled, completing just 9 of 27 passes for 76 yards, 0 tds and 1 interception. Veteran WR Kelley Washington had a great night on special teams and may have won himself a spot on the Eagles roster. That could mean Hank Baskett won't make the team. Recent acquisitions Jorrick Calvin and Pennel Egboh looked pretty good as well but they probably won't make the team. WR Chad Hall got a lot of playing time as well but he probably didn't do enough to beat out Washington or Baskett.

PHILLIES NEWS
The Phils looked to finish off another series win this afternoon with Roy Oswalt on the mound in the L.A. Oswalt was great again taking a no hitter into the 6th inning. In all he tossed 6 and 1/3rd scoreless innings, but he walked a career high 6 and thus could go no further than those 6 and 1/3rd innings. Thankfully by then the Phils had spotted him a 3-0 lead. Jimmy Rollins leadoff the 1st with a solo homer. Shane Victorino then slammed another solo homer to leadoff the 2nd inning. Later in the 7th Chase Utley ripped an RBI double and with that Roy was well on his way to another win.
From there J.C Romero finished off the 7th and Ryan Madson got through a shaky 8th inning, while allowing a run. Next in the 9th a pinch double by Dominic Brown and another double by Utley produced a couple insurance runs and a 5-1 lead. Brad Lidge had little trouble protecting that lead in the home half of the 9th and the Phils had their 5th win in their last 6. Unfortunately everyone else won again as well so the Phils remain 3 back in the NL East and 2 games up in the wild card race.

PHILLIES NEWS
Coming into tonight the Phils had really been struggling to not only score runs, but simply collect a hit. That was not the case tonight. Kyle Kendrick and wasn't great, but for once the Phils didn't need him to be. He was touched up for 4 runs on 7 hits and lasted only into the 6th inning, but believe it or not that was enough for his 9th win of the season. In fact when he left after 5 the Phils were actually leading 6-4 thanks to bashing 3 run homers in back to back innings.
With one out in the 2nd, Brian Schneider slammed a 3 run homer to put the Phils up 3-1. One inning later with 2 on and nobody out Ryan Howard crushed another 3 run homer for a 6-1 lead. After hanging onto a 6-4 lead through 6 behind Kyle and Chad Durbin, the Carlos Ruiz helped the Phils tack on a couple more in the 7th with a 2 out RBI single for an 8-4 lead. That was more than enough for J.C Romero, Ryan Madson, and Brad Lidge to combine to close it out the rest of the way. So again when they needed to the Phils got the win. Unfortunately so did everyone else and the Phils remain 3 games back in the NL East and 1.5 up in the wild card race.

PHILLIES NEWS
The Phils began a 3 game set in L.A tonight as they looked to extend their winning streak to 4 games. Unfortunately Roy Halladay did not have his best stuff with him on this night. He was still effective though allowing just 3 runs on 10 hits over 7 solid innings. If the Phils lineup had performed as effectively in this one as it did against San Diego, at least in terms of small ball, that performance by Halladay would have been enough.
Instead the Phils narrowly escaped falling to victim to a no hitter with Shane Victorino's 1 out single breaking up Hiruki Kiroda's no hit bid in the 8th. Unfortunately Kuroda retired the side from there and Hong Chih Kuo tossed a scoreless 9th to finish off the shutout. Other than their 3 runs on 10 hits off Halladay the Dodgers managed just 1 hit the rest of the way as David Herndon and J.C Romero combined for a scoreless 8th. So if nothing else the Phils pitching stayed on par. They've just got to figure out how to score again. The only other positive on the night was that Giants also lost so the Phils at least remain 1.5 games up in the wild card race. They do fall to 3 games back in the NL East though so a win tomorrow will be a necessity.

PHILLIES NEWS
Coming into this afternoon the San Diego Padres had not had a losing streak longer than 3 games all season long. All of that changed today. Cole Hamels was brilliant again, tossing 8 scoreless innings on just 4 hits while striking out 6. He actually did get himself into and out of a few jams in the early going but after that it was smooth sailing. Meanwhile, the Phils actually managed to support him for a change with some help from San Diego's defense which imploded for the first time all season and committed 4 errors.First in the 3rd inning, Clayton Richard's errant pickoff attempt allowed Carlos Ruiz to move up to 2nd, and a couple batter's later he scored on a single by Jimmy Rollins for a 1-0 lead.
Mike Sweeney, who got the start at 1st in place of Ryan Howard, crushed a 2 run homer down the line in left to make it 3-0 in the 7th. In the 8th Richard made another errant throw after fielding a bunt, which allowed Ruiz to reach 2nd safely and Cole Hamels to get on base. JRoll followed with a fly out on a diving catch by Ryan Ludwick, but while attempting to double Hamels off first Ludwick through the ball over everyone and into the Padres' dugout, causing Ruiz to be awarded home for a 4-0 lead. Finally in the 9th, Jayson Werth got a green light from Charlie on a 3-0 count and smashed a solo homer for a 5-0 lead. That was more than enough insurance for Ryan Madson to retire the Padres in the home half of the 9th and secure the weekend sweep. Unfortunately everyone else won today as well so the Phils remain 1.5 games up in the wild card race and 2 back in the NL East.
