The Phils began a 3 game set in L.A tonight as they looked to extend their winning streak to 4 games. Unfortunately Roy Halladay did not have his best stuff with him on this night. He was still effective though allowing just 3 runs on 10 hits over 7 solid innings. If the Phils lineup had performed as effectively in this one as it did against San Diego, at least in terms of small ball, that performance by Halladay would have been enough.
Instead the Phils narrowly escaped falling to victim to a no hitter with Shane Victorino's 1 out single breaking up Hiruki Kiroda's no hit bid in the 8th. Unfortunately Kuroda retired the side from there and Hong Chih Kuo tossed a scoreless 9th to finish off the shutout. Other than their 3 runs on 10 hits off Halladay the Dodgers managed just 1 hit the rest of the way as David Herndon and J.C Romero combined for a scoreless 8th. So if nothing else the Phils pitching stayed on par. They've just got to figure out how to score again. The only other positive on the night was that Giants also lost so the Phils at least remain 1.5 games up in the wild card race. They do fall to 3 games back in the NL East though so a win tomorrow will be a necessity.
