The Phils continued their series with the Marlins tonight. Kyle Kendrick got the start and pitched well, allowing no runs on just 4 hits in 6 solid innings of work. Meanwhile, the Phils bat's produced 5 runs on 9 hits through the first 6 innings, but would the Fish be able to mount a comeback. Now onto the game. In the bottom of the first, Chase Utley doubled in a run for a 1-0 Phil's lead. In the bottom of the 2nd, Eric Bruntlett doubled in one run and Chris Coste scored on a fielder's choice for a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the 3rd, Ryan Howard slammed a solo homer for a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the 6th, Mike Cervenak, recently called up from the AAA Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, made his first major league hit count, slapping an RBI single for a 5-0 lead. Thanks to 3 combined shutout innings by relievers Chad Durbin and Ryan Madson, there would be no comeback by the Fish. Finally in the top of the 9th, Madson retired the Marlins in order to close out the 5-0 Phil's win. So the Phils move to 62-51 overall and back to 2.5 games up in the NL East.
