PHILLIES NEWS
The Phils did it again. Rookie sensation Kyle Kendrick got the start tonight and as he has all season long, he delivered 6 strong innings, allowing just 1 run on 6 hits, while striking out 6. Unfortunately, the Phils could manage only 1 run of their own, on a solo homer by Chase Utley in the 1st inning. Thus, the game rolled into extra innings tied at 1, as the Phils bullpen again combined for 3 scoreless innings(7th, 8th, and 9th). Then in the top of the 10th Ryan Howard slapped a single, Jayson Werth worked a bases loaded walk, and Carlos Ruiz slapped another single as the Phils scored 3 runs to go ahead 4-1. In the bottom of the inning, after allowing a leadoff single, Clay Condrey retired the side for a 4-1 Phils win. So the Phils improve to 85-70 overall, still just 1.5 games behind the Mets in the NL East, and as of now 1 game behind the Padres(currently they trail the Rockies 4-2 in the 7th) in the wildcard. Thus, life remains beautiful.
