Most pundits who follow the Eagles as much as I do, would have told you if you asked them that L.J Smith would not be returning to the Eagles next season. After today that may not be so, as the Eagles slapped the franchise tag on Smith. That means that it will be tough for anyone other than the Eagles to sign him this offseason. Although teams can still send him offers the Eagles will now have 7 weeks to match them, and even if another team were to sign Smith, that team would have to send two first round draft picks to the Eagles. Thus, Smith might just be an Eagle next season after all.
