FLYERS NEWS
How sweet it is. Coming into their 2nd round series with the heavily favored # 1 seeded Montreal Canadiens, few gave the Flyers any hope of advancing, but now after tonight's game few would bet against them. Marty Biron had another dazzling night with 36 saves out of the 38 shots he faced and the Flyers rode him to the finish. In the first period of play neither team could light the lamp. Midway through the second period of play, R.J Umberger scored on the power play for a 1-0 Flyer's lead. Early in the third period of play, Scotty Hartnell scored for a 2-0 Flyer's lead. Then late in the period Tomas Plekanec and Saku Koivu each scored within seconds of each other and suddenly it was all tied up at 2. A few minutes later, Danny Briere scored on the power play for a 3-2 Flyer's lead. Then the desperate Habs pulled goalie Jaroslav Halak, starting in place of Carey Price, in favor of the extra attacker, a move that worked to net them game 1. This time it back fired as Umberger scored in the empty net with about 2 seconds to play, to cap off a huge 4-2 Flyer's win. So now the Flyer's lead the series 3-1 and can close it out back in Montreal in game 5 and advance to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time, since 2004. How Sweet would that be.
