PHILLIES NEWS

Fresh off a thrilling sweep of the Braves in Atlanta the Phils traveled to Florida tonight to begin a key 3 game set with Marlins. Brett Myers got the start tonight and just wasn't on his game, as he allowed 5 runs on 7 hits in just 5 and 1/3rd innings of work. Meanwhile, Ricky Nolasco once again gave the Phils' bats fits and it would come down to a late rally to see who would prevail on this night. Now onto the game. In the bottom of the 1st Hanley Ramirez slammed a solo homer and Jorge Cantu slugged a 2 run homer for a 3-0 Marlins' lead. In the top of the 5th, Jimmy Rollins crushed a 2 run homer to cut the lead to 3-2. In the bottom of the 5th, Mike Jacobs slugged a 2 run homer for a 5-2 Marlins' lead. In the top of the 6th, Greg Dobbs slapped a 2 out RBI single to cut the lead to 5-3. In the top of the 8th, Pat "the Bat" Burrell slammed a solo homer to cut the lead to 5-4. Finally in the top of the 9th, Jayson Werth led off with a single, and moved to second on a bunt, but try as they might the Phils could not get him across the plate to tie it up and the Marlins hung on to win 5-4. So the Phils drop to 39-27 overall and now lead the NL East by just 2.5 games.

Its tough to see a close loss, but at least it was close, and the Phils are still in first. Hopefully they bounce back and continue to play their winning way
