PHILLIES NEWS

After sweeping the Nationals in Washington the Phils continued on their road trip as they headed to St.Louis to begin a 3 game set with the Cardinals. Cole Hamels got the start tonight and was touched up a bit allowing 5 runs on 8 hits in 6 innings of work. Meanwhile, former Phil Kyle Lohse held the Phils' bats in check for 5 innings, so it would come down to a late rally to see if the Phils could pull out a victory. Now onto the game. In the bottom of the 3rd, Joe Mather slammed a 3 run homer and Yadier Molina slapped a sac fly for a 4-0 Cardinal's lead. In the bottom of the 5th, Ryan Ludwick slugged a solo homer for a 5-0 Cardinal's lead. In the top of the 6th, Chase Utley doubled in one run and Pat "the Bat" Burrell crushed a 2 run homer to cut the lead to 5-3. In the bottom of the 8th, Ludwick did it again, slamming a second solo homer for a 6-3 Cardinal's lead. Finally in the top of the 9th, the Phils managed to put runners on 2nd and 3rd with two out for the "Flyin Hawaiian" Shane Victorino, but sadly Victorino could not get the runners across the plate to knot it up, as he grounded out weakly to end it in a 6-3 Cardinal's win. So the Phils drop to 59-50 overall but remain 1 game up in the NL East.

Well its sad to see the win streak end, but it will be even sadder if the losing streak continues
