After toughing out a series split with the Cubs, the Phils traveled to Washington to start a potentially much easier series with the Nationals. Kyle Kendrick got the start and was touched up for 6 runs on 8 hits in just 4 innings of work. Meanwhile, the Phils didn't have a single run, let alone a hit heading into the 6th inning so they need another late comeback to pull out this one. Now onto the game. In the bottom of the 1st, Lastings Milledge slapped a 2 run single for a 2-0 Nat's lead. In the bottom of the 4th, Willie Harris tripled in one run, Cristian Guzman doubled in a 2nd run, and Ryan Zimmeran slammed a 2 run homer for a 6-0 lead. In the top of the 6th, Ryan Howard doubled in one run, then some charity from the Nationals, a walk and a hit by pitch, with the bases loaded gave the Phils 2 more runs, cutting the lead to 6-3, but they could take no further advantage of the charity. In the bottom of the 7th, Jesus Flores slapped an RBI double for a 7-3 lead. In the top of the 9th, Jimmy Rollins slugged a solo homer to cut the lead to 7-4, but the Phils would get no closer, eventually succumbing to the Nats by that score. So the Phils drop to 75-63 overall and now 2 games behind the Mets in the NL East.
