PHILLIES NEWS
The Phils got their off season underway yesterday coming to a preliminary agreement with leftfielder Raul Ibanez on a 3 year $31.5 million deal, pending a physical. Ibanez, is 36 years old, but batted .293 last season with 23 homers and 110 RBIs, so he's still got a little bit left in the tank. Most likely, this means that Pat Burrell will not be returning to the Phils next season, as Ibanez would take his place in left, but you never know. The Phils also signed utility infielder/outfielder Eric Bruntlett and reliever Clay Condrey to one year contracts, avoiding arbitration with the two. However, Bruntlett and Condrey are just a couple of the numerous Phils that are arbitration eligible, so they have their work cut out for them in the coming months.

Well from the sounds of it Ibanez is a reasonable, and economic choice over Pat Burrel, and like you said they may need some of that money for arbitration
