SIXERS NEWS

After an embarrassing loss to the Orlando Magic in their season opener the Sixers returned to the Wachovia center tonight looking to get back on track in their home opener against the Milwaukee Bucks. Thanks to some improved defense, admittedly against an opponent not nearly as talented offensively, and a more balance offensively they were able to do just that. All 5 Sixer starters scored in double figures with Andre Iguodala's 19 leading the way. Elton Brand scored 17, Lou Williams posted 16, Thad Young added 13, Sammy Dalembert chipped with 10 and 12 rebounds. Jason Kapono also came in off the bench to score 12, including 2 threes. Offensively, the only thing down from the opener, was the Sixers shooting percentage which dropped from the 50s to 45%, but that was really because they were focusing more on defense tonight then their scoring. The defense really was a whole lot better for the Sixers tonight as they held the Bucks to just 40% shooting from the field and only 30% from beyond the arc. They also outrebound the Bucks, barely, 45-44 and posted 12 steals and 7 blocks. Sure, it was against the Bucks, but it was still an impressive defensive effort by the Sixers and it is what they need to do every game if they want to be successful. The Sixers actually trailed by 6 at the half with the score 47-41. They picked it up on defense from there and by the 4th quarter they were up by 9 with the score 76-67. They simply handled the Bucks in the 4th and eventually put away a 99-86 win.

Now thats a way to bounce back from an embarassing defeat even if it was against the Bucks.
