The Phils continued their series with the Astros tonight as the ageless Jamie Moyer got his first start of the season. For a while it looked like it would be a great start as he rolled through the first 2 innings and had 2 outs in the 3rd with the pitcher coming up. Then that pitcher, Felipe Paulino ripped a double and suddenly everything fell apart. The Astros went on to score 5 in the inning and it looked like that might be it for Jamie. However, he managed to tough out another 3 innings, all scoreless, and at least gave the Phils a chance to win. Let's just say they took advantage of it. Before Moyer imploded in the 3rd, the Phils had actually jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Ryan Howard tripled and scored in the 1st for a 1-0 lead. Then a walk by Howard and a double by Jayson Werth with the bases loaded pushed it to 4-0.
From there after Moyer gave up the lead and then hung in there for those last few innings the Phils found themselves down 5-4 in the 7th with 2 out. Then Chase Utley walked, Ryan Howard crushed a 400 + foot homer, and Werth, Raul Ibanez, and Shane Victorino collected 3 straights hits to put the Phils back ahead 7-5. Later Victorino put the Stros away for good with a 2 run homer in the top of the 9th to push the lead to 9-5. After Chad Durbin and Danys Baez had tossed scoreless innings in the 7th and 8th, Ryan Madson took the ball for the 9th, in a non save situation. Despite allowing a leadoff double to Micheal Bourn and a run, Madson was able to close out the Astros for the 9-6 win, the Phils 4th in their first 5. In addition to their 9 runs the Phils racked up 11 more hits for their 5th straight game with 10 hits or more. That is just amazing and I just wonder how long they'll be able to keep it up.
