After 4 straight shutouts at Citi Field it was up to Roy Halladay to exact revenge on the Mets. He did and then some, tossing 8 scoreless innings on just 4 hits while striking out 7. He did allow a leadoff triple to Jose Reyes in the 4th but managed to pitch around it with back to back strikeouts to Carlos Beltran and David Wright to finish the inning. Later Angel Pagan singled and reached 2nd on an error with 2 out in the 6th. Again Halladay gout out of it, forcing Wright into a ground out.
As for the Phils, 3 straight 2 out singles in the 3rd produced their only earned run. However, Met's errors by Ruben Tejada in the 5th and Wright in the 6th handed the Phils 3 unearned runs for a 4-0 lead through 8. If those runs hadn't been handed to the Phils Halladay might have needed to go the distance. Instead with a cushy 4-0 lead Charlie Manuel opted to send in Ryan Madson in the 9th and it almost cost him. 2 singles, 2 strikeouts, and a hit batsmen later, and the bases were loaded for Josh Tole. Fortunately, after a long at bat Madson struck out Thole close out the 4-0 win. With the win the Phils move to 2 back in the NL East and remain 1 back in the wild card.
