PHILLIES NEWS

The Phils completed their series with the Marlins, and a stretch of 24 games in 23 days with a bang tonight. Cole Hamels was brilliant again tossing 7 scoreless innings on just 4 hits to run his scoreless streak to 25 straight innings. Meanwhile, Ryan Howard continued his September magic going 3 for 5 with a homer and 6 RBIs to lead a 10 run effort by the men in red pinstripes. In the 1st, he slapped a 2 run single. In the 4th with the Phils already ahead 4-0 he crushed a 3 run homer to push the lead 7-0. It was his 250th career homer, which makes him the fastest in history to 250 HRs. Finally in the 7th he slapped another RBI single to give the Phils a resounding 10-0 lead. However, just when it seemed like the Fish were fried things turned.

Nate Robertson came on to pitch the 8th inning and struggled mightily against his former team, allowing 5 runs on 5 hits. Then David Herndon replaced him and allowed another run before finally getting out of the inning. Just like that the lead was down to 10-6 and the Marlins had new life. Fortunately, Charlie Manuel did the smart thing and brought in Ryan Madson to close it out in the 9th. He probably would have brought in Brad Lidge instead but he's still sidelined for now with elbow pain. Anyway Madson issued a walk for the 2nd night in a row but still got through the 9th without much trouble and the Phils had their 81st win of the season. They remain .5 games up in the NL East as the Braves also won today.

Well Cole Hamels is the man, the offense is potent when it works correctly and first place is feeling really nice. I'm feeling another World Series push as long as everyone is healthy for the playoffs.

yes he is the man and you could be right but I think it is a little early to be thinking World Series just yet, but we'll see
