It was a worry free Sunday for the Phils as Roy Oswalt tossed a complete game shutout on just 4 hits while striking out 6 and walking 1. The Mets just never figured him out and probably didn't really care enough to do so anyway. All told Oswalt needed just 113 pitches to go all 9 innings which shows you just how dominating his stuff was. Considering how much the bullpen has worked lately it was really nice to give them a day off.
In the end the only worry for the Phils on the day was whether they would plate enough runs to get Oswalt the win. They did and then some. Chase Utley slapped an RBI single with nobody out in the first inning to plate what turned out to be the winning run. Later Placido Polanco doubled and scored on a single by Ryan Howard in the 3rd inning. Finally in the 7th, Raul Ibanez crushed a solo homer to put the Phils 3-0 and that was about all she wrote. Oswalt took from there, closing his out his 12th win of the season. With the win the Phils and a late loss by the Braves the Phils move back in the 1st in the NL East by 1 game.
