FLYERS NEWS

Fresh off their most lifeless performance of the season the Flyers rebounded in a big way tonight, exploding for 6 goals, 3 on the power play, against the Buffalo Sabres and the top goalie in the Eastern conference, Ryan Miller. Considering how poorly they played in their last game this kinda came out of nowhere but it just goes to show how talented this team really is. I just wish they would show that talent more consistenly. Tonight was fun though and I'll take it. It was just one of those nights where just about everything went in the favor of the Orange and Black.

The rookie, Sergei Bobrovsky, outplayed Miller with 32 saves to Miller's 28. The Flyer's power play outplayed the Buffalo power play with 3 goals in 5 scoring changes, to the Sabres two scores in 3 opportunities. Only the Flyer's defense failed to impress allowing 35 shots on goal and scores on 2 out of 3 Buffalo power plays. So ironically the first game all season in which the Flyers scored multiple power plays is also the first game all season in which they allowed multiple power plays. There's a joke in there somewhere, but anyway aside from that it was great to be a fan of the Orange and Black.

Things started slowly with a Jody Shelley penalty leading to a 1-0 Sabres lead just about 9 minutes into the contest. From there however, it was pretty much all Flyers. Late in the first period Danny Briere scored the first of the 3 Flyer's power play goals to knot it up at 1. Just under 5 minutes into the 2nd period Nikolay Zherdev, with an assist from Scott Hartnell, gave the Flyers a lead they would never relinquish. Late in the period Darroll Powe extended the Flyer lead to 3-1. Just 3 minutes later, Claude Giroux, who assisted on the Powe goal, added a pretty unassisted tally for the 2nd of the Orange and Black's 3 power play scores.

38 seconds into the 3rd period Jeff Carter slapped home the 3rd and final power play score to push the lead to 5-1 and all but put the game away. The game Sabres did fight back cut it to 5-3 with about 8 minutes to play, but it was too little too late. Andreas Nodl added an empty netter and the Flyers walked away with an easy 6-3 win. If only they could play like that every night.
