FLYERS NEWS

The Flyers came into tonight, in a matchup against the Montreal Canadiens, having a earned at least a point in 10 straight games and they had little trouble doing so. Even the tough Ottawa Senators couldn't keep the Flyers from blowing them away 5-1 last night. Unfortunately, it seems that effort against Ottawa and the long over night travel from Philly all the way to Montreal might have taken it's tole on the Orange and Black in this one. Well that, and the dazzling play of Carey Price. He was just too good tonight. Tired or not, the Flyers still managed to slap 41 shots at him and he stopped them all. The Orange and Black also went 0 for 6 on the power play, mostly thanks to Price, and that didn't help matters either. Moreover, Danny Briere and Claude Giroux, usually more enthused in front of their home crowd, combined for just 4 shots on goal and considering how the Flyers have relied on those 2 this season that was probably the difference.

For their part Montreal was not impressive necessarily, but they were solid and they did what they had to. Mike Cammalleri had the only goal in the first period for a 1-0 Habs lead. Tomas Plekanec followed with the only goal in the 2nd period for a 2-0 Habs lead. Finally, Brian Gionta put the Flyers away with the only goal in the 3rd period for a 3-0 Habs. Price basically did the rest as the Canadiens went on to win by that score. Considering how hot they were coming, the Flyers were due for a night like this and it's not all that surprising. You just have to tip your cat Price in this one and move on.
