The Flyers traveled to Chicago this afternoon to engage in a Stanley Cup Finals rematch with the Blackhawks. While the Orange and Black came up short in the finals they did not on this afternoon. Jeff Carter was the big hero in this one with 2 goals and an assist, while Nikolay Zherdev chipped in with a goal and an assist and Claude Giroux had 4 assists. Meanwhile on the other end of the ice Sergei Bobrovsky was brilliant saving 30 of the 31 shots he faced.
After a scoreless 1st period, Carter got things going just 49 seconds into the 2nd period, as Giroux and Zherdev set him up for a 1-0 lead. Later a couple minutes into the 3rd period Giroux setup Zherdev for a 2-0 lead. A few minutes later Giroux setup Carter for a 3-0 lead. Still Chicago did not go away with Marian Hossa scoring just a minute later to cut it to 3-1. Thanks to Bob it stayed 3-1 until the final minutes, forcing to desperately pull their goalie in favor of the extra attacker. It didn't work though as Carter and Giroux setup Scott Hartnell for an empty netter to put away a 4-1 win with 52 seconds left. How sweet it is.
