After back to back debilitating losses the Sixers were desperate for a win tonight to avoid going 0-3 on their current road trip and more importantly avoid falling back to .500 on the season. Fortunately they reverted back to form just in the nick of time to avoid both. Furthermore, the Clippers have been struggling a bit lately, which only made things easier for the Sixers. Defensively, they did a solid job, limiting L.A to just 30% shooting from beyond holding and down Blake Griffin to just 14 points on just 3 of 12 shooting. The Clipper also killed themselves by shooting just over 50% from the line and turning the ball over 17 times.
The Sixers meanwhile shot over 40% from beyond and 82% from the line, while turning the ball over just 11 times and that really gave the . In all 6 Sixers scored in double figues, led by Jodie Meeks 22 on 5 of 8 shooting from beyond. Jrue was next with 20 and 9 assists, while Elton Brand powered through 19 and 12 rebounds. Spencer Hawes was also solid with 12 and 6 rebounds and Lou Williams chipped in off the bench for 14. All that together was just enough for the Sixers to lead pretty much wire to wire and when the smoke had finally cleared the Sixers had their win in L.A, 104-94.

FLYERS NEWS
After blowing a huge lead at home the Flyers looked to get back on track tonight in Florida and they did barely. Fortunately the Panther's offensive attack was typically lackluster or the Orange and Black might have ended up blowing another lead. Ultimately their defense got the job done this time blocking 22 shots and holding Florida to just 22 shots on goal, 20 of which were stopped by Brian Boucher. Jeff Carter scored a pair of goals to took care of the rest. The Flyers had the early 1-0 lead as Ville Leino and Mike Richards set up Scott Hartnell. The Orange and Black trailed 2-1 at the end of the first before Carter took over. 4 minutes into the 2nd period Claude Giroux picked up the assist as Carter tied it at 2. Then with about 5 minutes left in the period Danny Briere picked up an assist as Carted made it 3-2. That would be all the Flyers would need as the defense and Boucher hung on in the final period for the 3-2 win.

Coming off close to their worst loss of the season, the Sixers figured to play much better tonight in Utah. Unfortunately for about 3 quarters it was more of the same, basically just a lot of mistakes, missed opportunities, and a lack of energy on the Sixer's side of the floor. Eventually the Sixers did finally wake up in the 4th quarter, but it still wasn't really a great effort overall. Defensively they were probably good enough to win for the most part, but offensively it was a struggle as they shot just 42% from the field and 38% from beyond, with just 5 Sixers in double figures. Andre Iguodala led the way with 23 and Lou Williams chipped in with 22 off the bench to spearhead a late rally that saw the Sixers erase a 21 point deficit and go up by 3 in the final seconds.
Jodie Meeks, who scored 17, then missed a free throw to preserve the 3 point and Utah was able to tie it up. Andre Iguodala missed a pull up J for win after that and the game went into overtime where the Sixers ran out of gas and fell 112-107.

What's worse? Watching your team get blown out or watching them blow a huge lead late? After tonight's contest between the Flyers and the Thrashers I would have to say the latter. For the most part this was a dominating performance by the Orange and Black. Through 2 periods Ville Leino was 2/3rds of the way to a hat trick, Mike Richards already had 2 assists, and Sergei Bobrovsky was having an outstanding night, stopping all 21 shots he faced. Then it all came crashing down in the 3rd period. Bob quickly lost the shutout early in the 3rd as the lead dwindled to 3-2, but it didn't seem like it would matter as Richards notched his 3rd assist of the night and Leino completed the hat trick for a 4-2 lead. That was it, game, set, and match right? Not on this night.

Playing their 5th game in 4 nights after an emotional win over the Celtics, the Sixers simply had nothing left in the tank physically or emotionally tonight in Milwaukee and it showed. Only 4 Sixers scored in double figures with Lou Williams 16 off the bench the highlight. Andre Iguodala also had 10 and 5 assists, Jodie Meeks had 13 and Evan Turner contributed another 10 off the bench. Aside from that it was all bad for the Sixers in this one. They shot just 39% from the field and 37% from beyond while turning the ball over a highly unusual 20 times. Their defensive was also unusually bad, allowing Milwaukee to shoot 52% from the field and from beyond. That's just not going to get it done most nights and it didn't tonight either. The Sixers were actually in it for a quarter but seemed to have nothing left after that as the Bucks rolled away to a thumping 102-74 win. Hopefully this was just an off night and won't signify the start of anything.

The Sixers finally got a signature win against an Eastern conference opponent tonight as the Celtics visited the Wells Fargo center. Once the Sixers were great defensively, holding Boston to just 41% shooting from the field and 27% from beyond. Andre Iguodala was doubly outstanding on D, holding Paul Pierce to just 11 points and no treys. He also fell just short of his 3rd triple double in 4 games with 13, 8 assists, and 9 rebounds. Elton Brand was also solid with 14 and 5 rebounds, Spencer Hawes was great with 14 and 10 rebounds, Jodie Meeks drilled a couple more treys and wound up with 11, and Lou Williams chipped in off the bench with 12. All in all it was just enough down the stretch for the Sixers to open a late 5 point lead after an Iggy runner and then hold it, as Boston failed to foul them in the final seconds. The Wells Fargo center was then as loud as its been all year the Sixers celebrated a huge 89-86 win.

Claude Giroux's goal and an assist and Brian Boucher's 27 saves were just enough to help the Orange and Black hold off the Maple Leafs 3-2. Giroux's assist came in the first period to Andrej Meszaros for a 1-0 Flyers lead. Matt Carle assisted Darroll Powe to make it 2-0 early in the 2nd period. After Toronto cut it to 2-1 later in the period, Giroux himself was setup by James Van Reimsdyk and Jeff Carter for a 3-1 lead. From there it was all about Boucher and the defense hanging onto the lead in the final period. The defense came through holding Toronto to just 7 shots and Boucher stopped 6 of them to seal the Flyer win.

The Sixers continued with their winning ways this evening as the Warriors visited the Wells Fargo center. Defensively, they struggled to contain the fastbreaking Warriors who shot close to 50% from the floor. Instead the Sixers adapted and starting running themselves. They just did it a little bit better.with 6 players in double figures to the Warriors 4. Andre Iguodala led the way with his second straight triple double(15, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists) while Evan Turner and Thad Young both came off the bench for 20 and 7 rebounds. Elton Brand was also solid with 12 and 5 rebounds, Jrue Holiday had 16, 7 assists and 8 rebounds, and Jodie Meeks drilled a pair of treys and wound up with 11. Add it all up and you've got a thrilling 125-117 overtime win and perhaps the turning point in Evan Turner's career as a Sixer.

The Flyers played their worst game of the season this afternoon, suffering a 7-0 drubbing at the hands of the stinking Rangers. Suffice it to say everything that could have gone wrong for them today did. If you missed this game consider yourself among the lucky ones because it was about as ugly as it gets. The only positive out of a loss like this is that the Orange and Black can't possibly sink any lower, with this loss coupled with 6 losses in their last 8 and 4 overall. They did just need to get healthy and figure out how everything wrong fast or its going to be a long rest of the season.

Coming into this one the Flyers had lost 3 in a row this season just once. In order to avoid equaling the lone streak they would have to knock off the desperate Sabres. Unfortunately once again they just didn't have it this afternoon, at least not in the final 2 periods. Early on they looked great and were firing on all cylinders. First Matt Carle and Mike Richards setup Kris Versteeg for a 1-0 lead. Then a few minutes later James Van Reimsdyk beat Ryan Miller top shelf for a 2-0 lead. After that it just about all downhill for the Flyers

After a tough loss to the Mavericks had a golden chance to get right back on track night as they played host to Kevin Love and the lowly T-Wolves. Despite not giving necessarily their best effort they were able to take advantage of the opportunity. They did just enough defensively, racking up 8 blocks and 6 steals, and holding Minnesota just under 50% from the field at 47%. Just when it seemed like they were getting healthy again, the Flyers were once again put behind the 8-ball as Jeff Carter and Daroll Powe were both lost for the night with flu like systems. Without those 2 the Orange and Black was forced to call up Ben Holmstrom from the Phantoms and insert a not fully healed James Van Reimsdyk back into the lineup. As a result they ran out of steam towards the end of the game and eventually ended up coming up just a little short.

The 2nd hottest team in the NBA locked in a battle with the hottest team in the NBA tonight at Wells Fargo as the Sixers battled the Mavericks. Unfortunately, as Donovan McNabb would say, they should their youth in the closing minutes of the game and came up a bit short against the more experienced Mavs. 58% shooting from the foul line and multiple 4th quarter turnovers really hurt them, as did Jason Terry who came off the bench for 30 and Dirk who had 22 despite not hitting a 3 all night. The top performers for the Sixers were Andre Iguodala with 15 and 7 rebounds, Jrue Holiday with 14, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists, Elton Brand with 12 and 6 rebounds, Jodie Meeks who drilled 4 treys and wound up with 16, and Thad Young who had 13 and 7 rebounds, all of whom took a nose dive when it really mattered in the games final minutes.

The Flyers made just one move at the trading deadline, sending prospects Greg Moore and Micheal Chaput to the Columbus Blue Jackets for bearly left winger Tommy Sestito. Sestito is expected to report to the Phantoms and probably won't play for the Flyers this season. Next year he'll be a valued commodity since he can fight and score and is the most likely candidate to replace free agent Dan Carcillo next season.

The Sixers traveled to Cleveland tonight as they looked to get over .500 for the first time all season. Once again they put forth a solid all around effor, not quite as good as in their last two games but certainly good enough to win this one. Still, Cleveland didn't make it easy and the Sixers had to use all of their experience from heartbreaking losses early in the season to pull it out in the end. Defensively, they racked up another 8 blocks and 10 steals and held the Cavs to just 21% shooting from beyond. Meanwhile, the Sixers shot 45% from beyond and decent 49% from the field as 6 Sixers scored in double figures. Elton Brand led the way with 16 and 8 rebounds, while Jrue Holiday had a big 13, 9 assists, and 6 rebounds, Jodie Meeks drilled two key treys and finished with 14, and off the bench Evan Turner had 10, Thad Young had 12 and 5 rebounds and Lou Williams had 16.

There's been a lot of talk lately, some of it warranted and some not, about the Flyers not putting in full efforts night in and night out. Unfortunately tonight was no different, but this time they at least had a decent excuse with Chris Pronger out, Blair Betts still out, and James Van Reimsdyk loaned to the Phantoms for the night to make room for waiver pickup, defenseman Nick Boynton. Unfortunately Boynton couldn't make it out to Ottawa for the game tonight, so rookie Erik Gustaffson, recently called up from the Phantoms, took his place in lineup and in turn forced JVR to sit the night out. As a result the Orange and Black just didn't have the same energy tonight as they've had most of the season until recently. Still with the Senators, last in the Eastern conference, their opponents they shouldn't have needed that much energy. In the end though they just picked wrong night to come into Ottawa flat.

Hopefully this was only a one night thing for the Flyers but it does make you wonder a bit.

In the 1st period things looked good as the Flyers out shot Ottawa 15 -3 and took a 1-0 lead as Nikolay Zherdev fed Scott Hartnell perfectly on a breakaway score. Unfortunately after that the Flyers just seemed to shut it down completely, while the Senators amped it up physically the rest of the way and rolled a disheartening and disconcerting 4-1 win. Hopefully this was only a one night thing for the Flyers but it does make you wonder a bit.
PHILLIES NEWS
The Phils started spring on the the right foot as Cole Hamels allowed 1 run on 1hit while striking out 2 in 2 innings, and Dane Sardinha cracked a RBI single in thee 8th inning to lift the Phils over the Yankees 5-4 in their spring training opener. The Phils also played the Yankees in a B game, losing 8-1 as Danys Baez struggled mightily in relief.

SIXERS NEWS
The Sixers welcomed the Pistons to the Wells Fargo center tonight as they looked to hit the .500 mark for the first time all season. Prior to the game the Pistons staged a semi protest against head coach John Kuestner and as a result, only 6 Detroit players dressed for the game. So after a half they weren't much of an obstacle. The Sixers again were too much on both sides of the ball. Defensively, they racked up another 8 blocks and 7 steals and ruled the glass 49-32. Offensively, the Sixers shot 52% from the field in a dunk fest as the 5 Sixers scored in double figures. Andre Iguodala led the way with 21, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists, while Elton Brand notched another double double with 20 and 17 rebounds and Jrue Holiday did likewise with 12 and 10 rebounds. Thad Young and Mo Speights were also big off the bench, with 24 and 12 respectively.

They continued to play well in the 2nd quarter but couldn't quite shake the Pistons just yet with just a 10 point lead the half. The Pistons continued to hang in there in the 3rd quarter as the Sixers took an 11 point lead into the 4th quarter. FLYERS NEWS
After falling to the Coyotes in overtime the Flyers looked to right the ship tonight as they welcomed the New York Islanders to Wells Fargo center. Coming in the Flyers had defeated the Islanders 10 straight times. Make that 11. It wasn't easy though. Sergei Bobrovsky had to have another spectacular night stopping 32 of 35 shots, Claude Giroux had to be superman with 2 assists and great hustle alll night, and Andrej Meszaros had to be a late hero again.

There with just 18 seconds remaining, Andrej Meszaros drilled one past Al Montoya to secure the 4-3 Flyer win.

SIXERS NEWS
The Sixers returned from the all star break tonight with a matchup against John Wall and the Wizards at the Wells Fargo center. Coming in the Wizards were just 1-28 on the road this season and the Sixers were geared up to ensure things wouldn't get any better in this one. Frankly they were just too good for Washington on this night. Defensively, they racked up 7 blocks and 6 steals and destroyed the Wizards on the boards, 49-34. Offensively, they shot 51% from the field, 47% from beyond, and 87% from the line as 7 Sixers scored in double figures. Jrue Holiday led the way with 20 on 66% shooting. Among the starters, Elton Brand also had 15 and 6 rebounds, Andre Iguodala had 10, 5 assists, and 7 rebounds, and Jodie Meeks drilled a pair of threes and wound up with 12. Meanwhile, off the bench Evan Turner had 15 and 8 rebounds, Thad Young had 18 and 10 reobunds, and Mo Speights in rare extended playing time, put up 14 and 7 rebounds.

The Flyers have waived forward Nikolay Zherdev. This is not a surprise as he's played very sparingly for most of the season, due to his lack of commitment on the defense end and his inability to fit in with the Orange and Black's other forwards. He now has to pass through waivers to join the Phantoms for now. It's doubtful anyone will claim before he does.

FLYERS NEWS
The Flyers scoring woes continued tonight at home as the Coyotes visited the Wells Fargo center. They did have 37 shots on goal which is okay, but only one of them found the net. They also continued to struggle on the power play, going 0 for 5. Still, the defense continued to be very good, holding Phoenix to just 29 shots on goal and 1 for 4 on the power play. Sergei was a big part of that 1 for 4 with 26 strong savesm but in the end his efforts came up just a bit short and that was the difference.
Just 6 minutes into the 1st period Matt Carle and Danny Briere assisted Ville Leino for a 1-0 lead. Thanks to the Flyers defense and Bobrovsky it stayed that way all the way into the 3rd period. FLYERS NEWS
The Flyers finally finished off their road trip this afternoon in New York as they took on the Rangers with Hockey Day in America bragging rights on the line. Looking exhausted from their trip, and undermanned with Blair Betts still out, Mike Richards still limited by the Flu, and Sean O'Donnell lost to an injury just two minutes into the game, the Flyers put forth their most courageous performance of the season thus far. Even Brian Boucher got into the act, playing through a stinger with the game on the line in the 3rd period and not missing a beat, as he racked up 37 saves in an awesome effort. Equally impressive were Jeff Carter and Claude Giroux who each had a goal and an assist. Perhaps most impressive though was the restraint of the Orange and Black who did not commit penalty all afternoon.
Halfway through the 1st period the Flyers actually trailed 1-0. Just a few minutes after falling behind they evened up at 1 as Claude Giroux and Scott Hartnell setup Jeff Carter for the score. Halfway through the 2nd period Carter backhanded a centering pass to Giroux who fired it in for a 2-1 lead. A few minutes later Braydon Coburn and Daroll Powe assisted Dan Carcillo for a 3-1 lead. EAGLES NEWS
The Eagles have signed ex Bengals LB Rashad Jeanty. He started 32 games for the Bengals from 2006-2009 and was a standout on special teams before breaking his fibula while blocking for Bernard Scott on his 56 yard touchdown return during the Bengals 2009 wild card playoff game. He hasn't played since as the Bengals released him back in the 2010 preseason. For the Eagles he simply adds what a little veteran depth the Eagles can add until a new CBA is signed. At most for the Birds he'll be a special teams player or he won't make the team at all.
In other more somber Bird's news, hall of fame running back Ollie Matson, who spent his last 3 seasons with the Eagles from 1964-1966, died Sunday of respiratory failure. He was 80 years old.
