PHILLIES NEWS
Tonight's game was a a good old fashioned pitcher's duel from start to finish. Fresh off the DL for the Phils, Adam Eaton, went 5 and 2/3rds innings allowing just 2 runs on 5 hits. Meanwhile for the Mets, Tom Glavine went 7 shutout innings allowing just 8 hits. Carlos Delgado, crushed a 2 run homer in the 2nd inning for a 2-0 Mets lead and that was all the scoring until the 8th inning. There ,the Phils came alive just in the nick of time. Jimmy Rollins led off the inning with a solo homer to cut the lead to 2-1. Then Pat Burrell worked a walk, and was promptly replaced by pinch runner Shane Victorino. Victorino stole second, then moved up to 3rd on a throwing error by catcher Paul Lo Duca. Aaron Rowand followed with a swinging bunt to score Victorino and just like that it was all tied up at 2. With Geoff Geary, J.C Romero, and Brett Myers combining out of the bullpen to blanks the Mets through the top of the 10th inning, all the Phils needed was one swing to win it. They got it with one on and nobody out in the bottom of the inning, as Ryan Howard slammed his 35th homer of the year to win it 4-2. So the Phils improve to 69-62 overall, now just 4 games behind the Mets in the NL East, and currently 2.5 behind the Padres who lead the Diamondbacks 2-1 in the 4th inning. Thus, life remains beautiful.
