PHILLIES NEWS
Today was big for the Phils. Having lost 5 of their last 6, they badly needed a win to stay in the playoff race. In his first start as a Phil, John Ennis lasted only 4 innings, but he allowed just one run on 6 hits. The Phils bullpen was then lights out as Clay Condrey, J.C Romero, Tom Gordon, and Geoff Geary combined for 5 shutout innings. Meanwhile, the Phils offense went off to the tune of 9 runs on 12 hits. In the 4th inning, Greg Dobbs tripled in a run, and scored on a 2 run homer by Chris Coste. In the 6th, Dobbs crushed a solo homer. In the 7th, Shane Victorino singled, stole second, and scored on a single by Chase Utley. Finally, in the 8th, Abraham Nunez doubled in a run, Jayson Werth scored him on a single, and Jimmy Rollins scored Werth, with a towering 2 run homer, his 26th of the season. In the end the Phils rolled to victory, 9-1, to improve to 74-67 overall, still 6 games behind the Mets in the NL East, and 3 behind the Padres in the wildcard. Thus, life is beautful once again.
