PHILLIES NEWS
The Phils reeled in the Marlins for the second day in a row, to take their weekend series 2 games to 1. Jamie Moyer got the start and after getting a spectacular catch from Aaron Rowand, for the first out of the game, he cruised through 5 shutout innings. Meanwhile, the Phils jumped out early, with 5 runs in the 1st inning on a double by Rowand, a single by Jayson Werth, and a 2 run homer by Carlos Ruiz, and 2 runs in the 2nd inning on a two run homer by Pat Burrell. Burrell then added an RBI double in the 4th inning, for good measure, and before you knew it the Phils were up 8-0. Then Moyer ran out of gas in the 6th inning, allowing 3 homers, while recording one out, as Florida suddenly closed to within 3, with the score at 8-5. Fortunately, Antonio Alfonseca, Kane Davis, J.C Romero, and Brett Myers combined to shutdown the Marlins for the final 4 innings, as the Phils hung on to win 8-5. So the Phils improve to 75-67, now just 2 games behind the Padres in the wildcard, and still 6 games behind the Mets in the NL East. Still, life remains beautiful.
