FLYERS NEWS
The Flyers stayed hot this afternoon with a hard fought victory over the Washington Capitals. Marty Biron returned to goal tonight (after Niittymaki lost last night) and delivered 28 saves and yet another solid performance by a Flyer's goalie to spirit a victory. Early in the 1st period Alexander Semin scored to put Washington up 1-0. Late in the period Mike Knuble scored for a 2-1 Flyers lead. Jim Dowd and R.J Umberger each scored early goals in the 2nd period for a 4-1 Flyers lead. Mike Green and Alexander Ovechkin answered for Washington late in the period to cut the lead to 4-3. Midway through the 3rd period Mike Richards scored to push the Flyers lead to 5-3. Late in the period Michael Nylander scored to cut the lead to 5-4. Then with under a minute to play, Washington pulled goalie Brent Johnson in favor of the extra attacker, but Kimmo Timonen scored on the Capitals empty net, to put an end to their hopes and clinch a 6-4 Flyers victory. So the Flyers improve to 23-15-5 overall but remain in 3rd place in the Atlantic division.
