PHILLIES NEWS

The Phils finished off their 4 game set with the Dbacks today with a whimper instead of a bang. They simply ran into a buzz saw in Dbacks' ace Brandon Webb who went the distance allowing just 3 runs on 6 hits. Meanwhile Brett Myers got the start for the Phils and was roughed up allowing 7 runs on 9 hits. So it was simply the Dbacks' night. Now onto the game. In the top of the first the "Flyin Hawaiian" Shane Victorino singled and scored on a sac fly by Chase Utley. In the bottom of the inning Chris Young crushed a 2 run homer for a 2-1 Dback lead. In the bottom of the 4th Chris Snyder slapped a 2 run double, Chris Burke knocked in another run with a single and finally Snyder scored on a sac fly by Auggie Ojeda for a 6-1 Dback lead. In the bottom of the 5th Stephen Drew tripled and scored on a single by Mark Reynolds for a 7-1 Dback lead. In the bottom of the 7th, Justin Upton crushed a solo homer for an 8-1 Dback lead. Finally in the top of the 9th, the Phils tried to mount another late rally, as Victorino singled and scored on a single by Eric Bruntlett, who scored on a single by Ryan Howard, but it was to no avail as the Phils eventually fell to Arizona 8-3. So the Phils drop to 20-16 overall and finally relinquish first place in the NL East at least for one day.
