The Phils continued their series with the Nationals tonight. Cole Hamels got the start and tossed a gem, allowing 0 runs on 5 hits in 7 and 1/3rd innings of work. Meanwhile, the Phils' bats started slowly again with just 2 runs heading into the 7th inning, but it was enough for an early lead. Now onto the game. In the top of the 3rd, Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley each singled in a run for a 2-0 Phil's lead. In the top of the 7th, JRoll singled in a second run, and Carlos Ruiz scored on a fielder's choice for a 4-0 lead. From there, J.C Romero and Brad Lidge combined to finish off the shutout and close out a 4-0 Phil's win. So the Phils move to 76-63 overall, which for the moment leaves them 1.5 games out of first in the NL East, as the Mets and the Brewers head into the 10th inning tied at 5.

We're at a spot we were at in August. The Phils win games, but so do the Mets. Its as simple as the Mets need to lose and the Phils need to win, although its only simple in theory and not so easy in practice
