PHILLIES NEWS

The Phils opened a showdown weekend series with the Mets at Shea tonight. Brett Myers got the start and tossed a masterful 3 hit shutout for 8 innings. Meanwhile, Mike Pelfrey was equally tough for the Mets, allowing just 3 runs on 4 hits in 7 innings. So it would come down to the bullpen to hold the lead yet again. Now onto the game. In the top of the 1st, the "Flyin Hawaiian" Shane Victorino earned his moniker, as he singled, stole second, moved to 3rd on an error, and then scored on a fielder's choice for a 1-0 Phil's lead. In the top of the 7th, Greg Dobbs slammed a 2 run homer for a 3-0 lead. Finally in the top of the 9th, despite allowing a couple of hits Brad Lidge put the Mets away for the 3-0 win. So the Phils move to 77-64 overall, now just 2 games behind the Mets in the NL East.
