FLYERS NEWS

The Flyers completed their home and home with the Bruins this afternoon as they traveled to Boston. Early on it looked like it would repeat of Thursday night in Philly as Boston scored 3 times in first period, prompting John Stevens to pull goalie Marty Biron in favor of Antero Niittymaki after just a peeriod of play. Niittymaki did the job though, not allowing a single goal the rest of the way as the Flyers rallied to force overtime. Early in the first period Marc Savard scored for a 1-0 Bruin lead. Then late in the period Simon Gagne scored to knot it up briefly. A few minutes later Byron Bitz scored for a 2-1 Boston lead and Chuck Kobasew quickly followed Bitz to make it 3-1 Boston. Early in the 2nd period Glen Metropolit and Scott Hartnell each scored to even it up again at 3. In the 3rd period neither team could score sending the game into overtime. There just 3 minutes into the overtime period Randy Jones bounced one in off a Bruin defenseman for a 4-3 Flyers' victory. So the Orange Black move to 27-15-9 for 63 points overall and now 5th in the Eastern conference.

I thought this one was going to end up like the last game against Boston, but its really nice to see the Flyers beat such a good team, and hopefully they can get a win streak going.
