The Phils finished their regular season in Atlanta this afternoon. Having already clinched the best record in the majors the Phils really had nothing to play for today, and yet they still gave the Braves all they could handle. The Braves desperately needed the win to lock up at least a tie of the NL wild card and they came out playing as if there was no tomorrow. After Cole Hamels tossed 2 brilliant scoreless innings and Roy Oswalt threw 1 inning, allowing just 1 run, the Phils went to the bullpen the rest of the way and Atlanta jumped on it. First Danys Baez was touched up for 4 runs on 5 hits before Mike Zagurski bailed him out.
Next Joe Blanton served up a 2 run homer to Derek Lee before retiring the side in the 5th. Finally, J.C Romero allowed another run in the 6th, before Chad Durbin bailed him out. So heading into the 7th the Phils trailed 8-2 and looked toast, but they weren't done yet. Jayson Werth slammed a 2 run homer in the 7th to cut it to 8-4. Then in the 8th a single by Wilson Valdez and a double by Ben Francisco cut the lead to 8-7. Then the Phils put runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 out for Raul Ibanez, but Billy Wagner struck him out to preserve the lead. Wagner also retired the side in the 9th and the Braves finally had their wild card spot all but locked up. Still despite the loss the Phils finish with 97 wins and for the first time in their history, the most wins in the majors. Not bad huh.

Yea Phillies!!! Best record in the majors even after how poorly they played right after the allstar break. Its time for some butt whooping in these playoffs and the Phils will be World Series champions once again.
