After back to back tough losses the Orange and Black desperately needed to come out on top tonight as they lowly Islanders visited the Wells Fargo center. Although the penalty kill had a perfect night, on the whole the Flyers weren't that great defensively. Once again Sergei Bobrovsky was great stopping 36 of 37 shots otherwise this might have been another tough loss. Meanwhile, James Van Reimsdyk and Jeff Carter helped the Flyers build a nice early lead. About 8 minutes into the 1st period Claude Giroux setup Jeff Carter for a 1-0. Then Kris Versteeg setup JVR for a 2-0 lead. After New York cut it to 2-1, JVR struck again off assists from Andrej Meszaros and Sean O'Donnell for a 3-1 lead at the 1st intermission. Neither team scored in the 2nd period. Then halfway through the 3rd period Danny Briere and Giroux teamed to setup JVR for his first career hat trick and a 4-1 lead. From there Bob held off the last few Islander charges and the Orange and Black held on for an important 4-1 win. With the win the Flyers move to 100 points on the season and remain the top team in the Eastern conference and the Atlantic division by 2 points.
