PHILLIES NEWS

The Phils finished off their 3 game set with the Marlins this afternoon. The veteran Jamie Moyer got the start and after allowing 5 runs in the first 4 innings he beared down holding Florida scoreless for next three, allowing just 5 runs on 7 hits in 7 innings of work in total, just good enough to keep the Phils in it until they could launch yet another late rally. Now onto the game. In the bottom of the first, Chase Utley, walked, stole second, and scored on a single by Ryan Howard, for a 1-0 Phils' lead. In the top of the 2nd, Mike Jacobs slammed a solo homer to knot it up at 1. In the top of the 3rd, Jorge Cantu slapped a 1 run single and Jacobs slammed another homer, this time a 2 run homer, to put Florida ahead 5-1. In the bottom of the 3rd, Jimmy Rollins reached base on an error and scored on another error, and Utley crushed a solo homer to cut the Marlins' lead in half to 5-3. In the bottom of the 6th Geoff Jenkins slugged a 2 run homer to tie it at 5. In the bottom of the 7th, Pat "the Bat" Burrell slapped a 2 out 2 run double for a 7-5 Phils' lead. From there Flash Gordon and Brad Lidge combined to save it for Moyer and close out a 7-5 Phils win. So again the Phils improve to 33-25 and move back into first in the NL East.
