Fresh off a commanding series win over the Reds, the Phils traveled down to Atlanta for a key 3 game set with the Braves. The veteran Jamie Moyer got the start and pitched well allowing just 2 runs on 5 hits in 5 and 1/3rd innings of work. Meanwhile Tim Hudson dazzled the Phils to the tune of just one run on 5 hits in 7 and 2/3rds innings, but would it be enough to inch Atlanta closer to the top of the NL East, only a thrilling finish would tell. Now onto the game. In the top of the 1st, the "Flying Hawaiian" Shane Victorino tripled and scored on a fielder's choice for a 1-0 Phils' lead. In the bottom of the 6th, Brian Mcann slammed a 2 run homer for a 2-1 Braves' lead. For a while, it looked like that would hold up but with two out and 2 runner's on base in the top of the 9th, Chris Coste hit a weak pop up, that seemed to signal the end of the game, but Kelly Johnson dropped it just inside fair territory and Eric Bruntlett, pinch running for Pat Burrell, scored from second to knot it up at 2. In the bottom of the inning, Tom Gordon managed to pitch out of a similar jam, setting the stage for some late Victorino heroics. In the top of the 10th, Victorino tripled again to knock in one run and then scored on a single by Chase Utley for a 4-2 Phils' lead. Then in came Brad Lidge to close it out in the bottom of the inning. There with two on and two out, Yunel Escobar slapped what appeared to be a game tying single, but Victorino gunned down Gregor Blanco, representing the tying run, at the plate with a perfect throw, and stretching tag by Coste to end a thrilling 4-3 Phils win. So the Phils improve to 37-26 overall and move to 3.5 games up in the NL East.
