The Phils finished off their 3 game set with the Cardinals this afternoon in thrilling fashion. Brett Myers got the start, and had yet another off day, but managed to tough out 6 innings of work while allowing 6 runs on 8 hits, just good enough to keep the Phils in it until the end. Now onto the game. In the top of the first, Jimmy Rollins singled, stole second, and scored on a double by Ryan Howard. In the bottom of the first Ryan Ludwick and Rick Ankiel slapped back to back RBI doubles for a 2-1 Cards' lead. In the bottom of the 3rd, Skip Shumaker slammed a solo homer and Troy Glaus slugged a 2 run shot for a 5-1 Cards' lead. In the top of the 5th, Ryan Howard and Pat "the Bat" Burrell lined back to back RBI singles to cut the lead 5-4. In the bottom of the 6th, Ankiel tripled and scored on a fielding error by Howard for a 6-4 Cards' lead. In the top of the 8th, back to back bases loaded walks by Howard and Burrell knotted it up at 6. Finally, in the bottom of the 10th with 2 out, Ankiel reached base on a throwing error by Chase Utley, moved to second on a single by Glaus, and scored on yet another error, this time by Tom "Flash" Gordon as he failed to field Utley's throw to first on another routine ground ball. So the Phils fall 7-6 and drop to 41-30 overall and now lead the NL East by 3 games. What a way to lose. a game and a series
