FLYERS NEWS

The Flyers welcomed the Ottawa Senators to the Wachovia center tonight as they looked to extend their winning streak to 3. Antero Niittymaki got the start in goal and did not put forth his best effort saving just 18 of the 23 shots he faced. Meanwhile, the Flyers could not score until halfway through the 3rd period. So it was a lost night on the whole for the Orange and Black. Late in the 1st period Danny Heatley scored for a 1-0 Ottawa lead. Early in the 2nd period Jason Spezza made it 2-0. Then late in the period Nick Foligno scored for a 3-0 period. Just a bit before the halfway point of the 3rd period the Flyers finally got on the board as Darrell Powe scored to cut the lead to 3-1. A couple minutes later Danny Heatley netted his 2nd score of the night to push it back to 4-1. Seconds later Mike Richards scored to cut it to 4-2. Finally with just over 5 minutes to play Antoine Vermette scored to put the Flyers away for good and close out a 5-2 Ottawa win. So the Flyers drop to 28-16-9 overall but remain 4th in the Eastern conference with still 65 points.
