FLYERS NEWS

The NHL trade deadline was tonight and the Flyers made a few last minute moves. First they sent Scottie Upshall and 2nd round pick in the 2011 draft to the Phoenix Coyotes for big fighting forward Dan Carcillo who currently leads the NHL in penalty minutes with 174. Then they sent a 5th round draft pick to the San Jose Sharks for veteran defenseman Kyle Mclaren. Other than more penalty minutes and maybe some future potential there isn't much that Carcillo adds to the team. Mclaren who has been nursing a knee injury apparently, has spent just about all season down in the AHL and for now at least will stay there, as he joins the Phantoms. He could provide the Flyers which some much needed help on defensive help down the line, but for now he doesn't help at all. So on the whole the Flyers didn't really get anything significant at the deadline. If nothing else though trading Upshall does at least free up cap space, so that Flyers can now at least move players, like say Claude Giroux back and forth between the Phantoms and the NHL without having to worry about the cap. Plus even without Upshall the Flyers still have more than enough scoring with Scott Hartnell, Gagne, Richards, Carter, and a finally healthy Danny Briere among others.

The Flyers are looking good and it would be pretty hard to make your team worse through a trade so this one couldn't be too bad.

On a side note: I heard T.O. got cut by the Cowboys and all I've been doing is laughing at him.

yeah well I don't know if they're any worse but they're certainly not any better.

Yeah T.O did get cut and nobody wants him. Hopefully his career is finished. He's already messed up enough teams.
