Hawks 102 Sixers 94
It Was Over When....
It started. The Hawks jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, taking a 29 point lead at one point in the 3rd quarter.
The Game Ball Goes To....
Anthony Johnson with 10 points and 8 assists, Josh Smith with 26 points and 17 rebounds, Zaza Pachulia with 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Tyron Lue with 10 points off the bench.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
47, as in 47 rebounds on the night for the Hawks, to just 33 for the Sixers on the night. Basically, the Sixers got a bitter taste of their own medicine.
The Bottom Line Is....
Well, all good things must come to an end, or as Isaac Newton would say what goes up must come down, and sadly after a 7 game winning streak the Sixers came back down to earth tonight in a big way. Hopefully, they still have a few winning streaks left in them, or its good bye playoffs, and hello draft lottery.

PHILLIES NEWS

The Phils beat the Devil Rays today 11-8, but I mean really who hasn't. Anyway, once again no one got injured.

FLYERS NEWS

Stars 3 Flyers 2
It Was Over When....
Mike Modano scored the Stars 3rd goal of the night just 9 minutes into the 3rd period. The goal gave the Stars a 3-1 lead which they would never relinquish.
The Game Puck Goes To....
Jusso Jokinen with a goal and an assist.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
33, as in 33 shots on goal for the Stars on the night, to just 19 for the Flyers. Like, before simply outshooting the Flyers was all Dallas needed to do to win.
The Bottom Line Is....
Well, Antero Nittymaki got the start tonight, and look what happened, the Flyers lost. It's time to start using Biron more often.

It started. The Flyers fell behind early 2-0 after the 1st period and never recovered.
The Game Puck Goes To....
Niko Kapanen with a goal and an assist and goalie Mikael Tellqvist who pitched a shutout with 24 saves.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
24, as in 24 saves on 24 shots for Coyotes goalie Mikael Tellqvist, to just 20 saves on 24 shots or Flyers goalie Martin Biron. It was just Tellqvist's night.
The Bottom Line Is....
Well, you win some, you lose some, or if you're the Flyers you win some and lose a lot.

Sixers 100 Pacers 96
It Was Over When....
Kyle Korver sunk to clutch free throws with .8 seconds to play in the 4th quarter. The Pacer's Danny Granger had just hit his 2nd 3 pointer in a row to cut the lead to 98-96, but Korver's free throws put it away for good at 100-96.
The Game Ball Goes To....
Andre Miller with 16 points and 8 assists, Andre Iguodala with a game high 25 points and 5 rebounds, Samuel Dalembert with 12 points and 8 rebounds and Kyle Korver with 14 points off the bench.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
28, as in 28 free throws for the Sixers on the night to just 10 for the Pacers on the night. Usually if you get to the line that many more times than your opponent you win.
The Bottom Line Is....
It wasn't pretty but the Sixers got their 7th straight win and are now just 4 games behind the Orlando Magic for the last playoff spot in the Eastern conference.

FLYERS NEWS

Flyers 4 Bruins 1
It was Over When....
The 3rd period began. When the period began the game was tied at 1, by the time it ended the Flyers had exploded for 3 goals and a 4-1 win.
The Game Puck Goes To....
Scottie Upshall with a goal and an assist, Dmitry Afanasenkov with a goal and an assist, and goalie Martin Biron who saved 26 of the 27 shots he faced.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
3, as in 3 goals scored by the Flyers in the 3rd period to 0 scored by the Bruins. Obviously if you want to win an NHL game you have to be able to score late in the game.
The Bottom Line Is....
The Flyers may not be headed to the playoffs this season, but thus far they have done a pretty good job spoiling the playoff hopes of other teams.

PHILLIES NEWS

The Phils continued their spring training schedule today with 2 games. First they lost to the Astros 3-2, despite 4 strong innings out of Jon Lieber. They defeated the Devil Rays 6-4 despite a rough outing by Freddy Garcia. Other than that the only thing to mention is that once again no one got injured.

Sixers 108 Lakers 92
It Was Over When....
The second half began. The Sixers trailed by 6 at the half, but the second half belonged to them as they outscored the Lakers 57-35 and held Kobe Bryant to just 9 points, after a 21 point first half.
The Game Ball Goes To....
Andre Miller with 23 points and 8 assists, Andre Iguodala with a game high 31 points and 8 rebounds, Samuel Dalembert with 12 points and 16 rebounds, and Kyle Korver with 18 points off the bench.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
15, as in 15 turnovers by the Lakers on the night, to just 7 for the Sixers on the night. Accordingly the Sixers used those turnovers to score 19 fast break points to the Lakers 10. Oh and by the way the Sixers also had the rebounding advantage once again.
The Bottom Line Is....
The Sixers have now won 6 in a row, all on a homestand which ended tonight, and they are now just 4.5 games behind the Orlando Magic for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Believe It!

PHILLIES NEWS

The Phils lost a tough one to the Red Sox today 11-10. Other than that and the fact that once again no one got injured there is not much to talk about.

Panthers 2 Flyers 1
It Was Over When.....
Florida's Chris Gratton scored a flukish goal on Marty Biron with just 1:43 remaining in the 3rd period.
The Game Puck Goes To....
Chris Gratton with a goal and an assist, and veteran goalie Ed Belfour who saved 26 of the 27 shots he faced.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
37, as in 37 shots on goal by the Panthers on the night to just 27 for the Flyers on the night. Sometimes simply outshooting the other team is enough to get the win, especially when one of your shots just accidentally slides in.
The Bottom Line Is....
Apparently not even Marty Biron is immune to the unlucky bug that has bitten the Flyers time and time again this season.

PHILLIES NEWS

The Phils continued their spring training schedule today with a 7-6 loss to the Indians. Other than that the only thing to talk about is that no one got injured once again. Sixers 92 Supersonics 89
It Was Over When....
The Sixers Joe Smith hit a jump shot with 14 seconds to play to put the Sixers up for good 91-89. Smith then hit a free throw with 3 seconds remaining to seal the 92-89 victory.
The Game Ball Goes To....
Andre Iguodala with his 3rd triple double of the season(25 points, 10 assists, 11 rebounds), Stephen Hunter with 13 points, and 8 assists, Samuel Dalembert with 8 points and 20 rebounds, Kyle Korver with 10 points off the bench, and Joe Smith with 11 points off the bench.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
49, as in 49 rebounds for the Sixers on the night, to just 43 for the Supersonics on the night. As they have throughout this winning streak, the Sixers used a significant rebounding advantage to get the win.
The Bottom Line Is....
This makes 5 consecutive wins now for the Sixers and don't look now but all of the sudden the Sixers are within 5.5 games of the 8th and final playoff spot in the Eastern conference, currently held by the Orlando Magic. Yes, the Eastern conference is that bad.

Flyers 5 Devils 4
It Was Over When....
Simon Gagne scored with just under 2 minutes to play in overtime, giving the Flyers their 2nd win out of their last 3, in their 4th consecutive overtime game.
The Game Puck Goes To....
Mike Richards, Simon Gagne, Scottie Upshall, and Sami Kapanen, all with a goal and an assist each.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
1, as in 1 goal scored by the Flyers during the overtime period, to 0 scored by the Devils. Throughout the season, this stat has notoriously not gone in the Flyers favor, but tonight for once it did go in their favor and so they won.
The Bottom Line Is....
Well, the Flyers are now 2-1 with Biron and 16-47 without him. Okay, so he's only been with the team for 3 games now, but clearly the Flyers have been playing better since Biron came aboard.

PHILLIES NEWS

Sixers 99 Nets 86
It Was Over When....
The 2nd quarter started. At one point during the 1st quarter the Sixers trailed 24-7, and entering the 2nd quarter they trailed 32-18, but by the time the 2nd quarter ended the Sixers had outscored the Nets 31-13 to take a 6 point, 49-43, halftime lead, which they would never relinquish.
The Game Ball Goes To....
Andre Miller with 11 points, 12 assists, and 8 rebounds, Andre Iguodala with a game high 21 points and 6 rebounds, Willie Green with 20 points and 7 rebounds, Joe Smith with 11 points and 10 rebounds off the bench, and Kyle Korver with 20 points off the bench.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
9, as in only 9 points scored on the night for Nets star Vince Carter. Basically, as Carter goes so goes the Nets. Thus as Carter struggled tonight against the Sixers tough defense, so did the Nets.
The Bottom Line Is....
This makes 4, count 'em 4 wins in a row for the Sixers, which not surprisingly is their longest winning streak of the season thus far. So although, it's still pretty unlikely that they will be able to make the playoffs, I think it's safe to say that they are now a force to be reckoned with.

FLYERS NEWS

Penguins 4 Flyers 3 Final In A Shootout
It Was Over When....
Sidney Crosby beat Martin Biron with the Penguins 2nd goal of the shootout, ending the game.
The Game Puck Goes To....
Erik Christensen with 3 goals, Gary Roberts with a goal and 2 assists, and Sergei Gonchar with 2 assists.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
2, as in 2 goals scored by the Penguins during shootout to 0 scored by the Flyers in the shootout. It's like I have been saying all season, if it's overtime it must be the other guys.
The Bottom Line Is....
Coming into today's game the Flyers had yet to get a win against the Penguins, and there was no reason to think that today would finally be the day they would beat them and so they didn't.

Sixers 117 Grizzlies 112
It Was Over When....
Joe Smith dunked with 20 seconds remaining in overtime to put the Sixers up to stay at 115-110. Basically, the final minutes of the overtime period pretty much belonged to the Sixers.
The Game Ball Goes To....
Andre Miller with 11 points and 12 assists, Andre Iguodala with 27 points, 6 assists, and 9 rebounds, Samuel Dalembert with 10 points and 7 rebounds, Joe Smith with 18 points and 12 rebounds off the bench, and Kyle Korver with 27 points off the bench.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
Well, in a game with 24 lead changes and 18 ties its hard to find just one stat that defined the entire game, but here goes. 29, as in 29 fast break points for the Sixers on the night, to just 8 for the Grizzlies on the night, 54, as in 54 points in the paint for the Sixers on the night to just 46 for the Grizzlies, and finally 55.6, as in a shooting percentage of 55.6 on the night for the Sixers to a shooting percentage of 47.3 for the Grizzlies on the night. In fact, if not for the Sixers 21 turnovers on the night, this game could have been a blowout.
The Bottom Line Is....
After defeating the best team in the western conference in their last game, it's only fitting that the Sixers would win this game, for their 3rd win in a row, against the worst team in the western conference.

PHILLIES NEWS

The Phils defeated the Cleveland Indians 6-4 earlier today, for their first spring training win. Once again no one got injured, which is good, but there were also some key performances by some key players. Ryan Howard hit his first homer of the spring, Shane Victorino had 2 hits, and Antonio Alfonseca got his first save as a Phil, pitching a scoreless 9th inning.

EAGLES NEWS

Of the Eagles 11 free agents going into this offseason, two have now been re-singed by the Birds. Safety Quinten Mikell was re-upped to a 4 year deal back on Tuesday and Defensive Juqua Thomas was re-upped to a 5 year deal earlier today. Thus, the Eagles continued their current trend of giving promising young players long term deals.

Flyers 4 Bruins 3
It Was Over When....
The Flyers' Scottie Upshall scored with just 10 seconds remaining in overtime, breaking the hearts of the Boston fans.
The Game Puck Goes To....
Mike Richards with a goal and an assist, Sami Kapanen with 2 assists, and new goalie Martin Biron who after giving up two early goals, made 34 stops the rest of the way, allowing only one more goal, as the Flyer rallied from behind to win.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
55, as in 55 shots on goal for the Flyers on the night to just 34 shots on goal for the Bruins on the night. So far this season outshooting the other team had not really payed off for the Flyers but tonight it did in the form of 4 goals and a win.
The Bottom Line Is....
Well, it's just like I said Biron means more wins for the Flyers.

PHILLIES NEWS

The Phils played their first spring training game today against the Tigers and although they lost 9-7, no one got injured, which with this team is really the most important thing isn't it. Anyway, if you are looking for something to focus on from this game, then it's non roster invitee Greg Dobbs who led the Phils on the day with 3 hits including a homer. Who knows, maybe he's this years Chris Coste.

Sixers 99 Suns 94
It Was Over When....
Andre Iguodala hit a three pointer with 2 minutes to play in the 4th quarter. From that time on the Suns would not close to within any closer than 3 points of the Sixers.
The Game Ball Goes To....
Andre Miller with 12 points and 6 assists, Willie Green with 20 points and 6 rebounds, Andre Iguodala with 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists, and Kyle Korver with 16 points off the bench.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
50, as in 50 rebounds for the Sixers on the night, to just 37 for the Suns. Just like last night the Sixers had a massive rebounding advantage and so they won thier second game in a row.
The Bottom Line Is....
Going into tonight's game the Suns had a chance to make history by becoming the first team in NBA to win all of their interconference games without a loss and surely they were going to get the job done against the Sixers, but that as they say, is why they play the games. Tonight, was without the a doubt the Sixers finest hour of the season. Everything that could have gone their way went their way. They held the high-scoring suns to just 94 points and were a perfect 18 for 18 from the free throw line. Basically, they played as well as they could have, beat a really good team in the Suns, and should feel very good about themselves right now.

Islanders 6 Flyers 5 Final in Overtime
It Was Over When....
The Islander's Trent Hunter scored a power play goal with just over 4 minutes to play in the overtime period. The Flyers had rallied to tie the game at 5 at the end of regulation, but Hunter's goal thwarted the Flyers comeback bid.
The Game Puck Goes To....
Jason Blake with 3 goals and an assist, Trent Hunter with 2 goals, Randy Robitaille with 3 assists, and Mike Sillinger with 2 assists.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
1, as in 1 power play goal scored by the Islanders on the night, to 0 scored by the Flyers on the night, despite having 3 opportunities to do so. Basically, the two teams were pretty even from beginning to end ,with the only difference being that 1 power play goal scored by Hunter in overtime.
The Bottom Line Is....
Well, they lost this one, but you know what they might just start winning some pretty soon, since they acquired goalie Martin Biron from the Sabres in exchange for a draft pick. With Biron the Flyers now have 3 goalies with which to rely on, although it's likely that Robert Esche will be traded away at some point. Still, with Biron in the mix the Flyers might be able to turn things around a bit, so who knows maybe they won't be so bad next year.

The Sixers outscored the Kings 19-11 during the final 8 minutes of the game. Beforehand the game had been going back and forth between the two teams, but during these final 8 minutes the Sixers finally got the lead and held it.
The Game Ball Goes To....
Andre Miller with 18 points, 6 assists, and 6 rebounds, Andre Iguodala with 22 points, 7 assists, and 8 rebounds, and Samuel Dalembert with 20 points and 17 assists.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
55, as in 55 rebounds on the night for the Sixers, to just 40 rebounds for the Kings on the night. Anytime you get a rebounding edge that great you have a good chance to win, and so the Sixers did tonight.
The Bottom Line Is....
After 2 straight losses this is a win the Sixers needed to have and it's not really that surprising since the Kings had been struggling just as much if not more than the Sixers had been lately. Still, a win is a win, so way to go guys and keep up the good work.

The 3rd quarter ended. At the half the Bucks led by only 1, but by the end of the 3rd quarter they had exploded for 32 points and an 11 point, 79-68, lead which they would never relinquish.
The Game Ball Goes To....
Mo Williams with a game high 26 points and 7 assists, Andrew Bogut with 9 points and 7 rebounds, Ruben Patterson with 13 points off the bench, and Charlie Villanueva with 11 points off the bench.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
48 as in a 3 point field goal shooting percentage of 48 for the Bucks on the night, to just a 3 point shooting percentage of 25 on the night for the Sixers. The Bucks rode their high percentage to 12, count 'em 12 threes, which is just about enough 3 pointers to pull off a win against any team, especially the Sixers who can't really shoot 3 pointers themselves.
The Bottom Line Is....
Well, this is 2 losses in a row now for the Sixers and unfortunately at this point there is nothing but more frustration on the horizon, but hey that's what you get with a young team like this.

The Stat Of The Game Is....

From the end of the 1st quarter to the middle of the 2nd quarter, the Bobcats went on a 15-2 run to race out to a 17 point, 39-22, lead which they would never relinquish.
The Game Ball Goes To....
Raymond Felton with 9 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds, Gerald Wallace with 19 points and 6 rebounds, Emeka Okafor with 16 points and 16 rebounds off the bench, and Adam Morrsion with 19 points off the bench.
The Stat Of The Game Is....
51.2, as in a 51.2 field goal shooting percentage for the Bobcats on the night, to just a 44.4 field goal shooting percentage for the Sixers on the night. It's just like the Sixers' last game, the team that shot the best is the team that won, unfortunately that team wasn't the Sixers this time.
The Bottom Line Is....
Well, after opening the post all star game portion of their season with a win over the Knicks, the Sixers followed by losing to the Bobcats, who if anything are worse than the Knicks. Thus, you can see why the Sixers aren't quite ready for primetime just yet, they just aren't consistent enough.
