After a tough west coast swing, the Phils returned home at last tonight for a series with the Nationals. Joe Blanton got the start and did not pitch his best game but he did enough to keep the Phils in it, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits in just 5 innings of work. Meanwhile, the Phil's bats got off to another slow start, and they would need some late game heroics to pull out a win. Now onto the game. In the top of the 1st, Willie Harris slammed a solo homer for a 1-0 Nat's lead. In the bottom of the 2nd, Ryan Howard, yes Ryan Howard scored on a sac fly to knot it at 1. In the top of the 4th, Jesus Flores singled in a run for a 2-1 Nat's lead. In the top of the 5th, Ryan Zimmeran tripled to knock in one run and then scored on a single by Ronnie Belliard for a 4-1 lead. In the bottom of the 5th, the "Flyin Hawaiian" Shane Victorino tripled and scored on an error for one run, and Geoff Jenkins slapped a pinch sac fly to knock in a 2nd run to cut the lead to 4-3. In the bottom of the 7th, Chris Coste slapped, you guessed it, a sac fly to knot it up at 4. In the bottom of the 8th, Jayson Werth slugged a solo homer for a 5-4 Phils' lead, their first of the night, and it would be all they would need. In the top of the 9th, Brad Lidge came in and the Nats went down in order, to close out the 5-4 Phil's win. So the Phils move to 67-58 and remain 1.5 games behind the Mets for 1st.
