The Phils finished their series with the Nationals tonight, looking for the sweep. The veteran Jamie Moyer got the start, and pitched well allowing just 2 runs on 5 hits, in a strong 6 and 2/3rd's innings of work. Meanwhile, the Phil's bats got off to yet another slow start with, 0 count em, 0 runs through the first 5 innings. So they would need a late charge to attempt to pull out a win. Now onto the game. In the top of the 6th, an error by Chase Utley, throwing the ball away, while attempting to complete double play, led to a 1-0 Nat's lead. In the bottom of the 6th, Jayson Werth doubled and scored on a single by Chase Utley to knot it up at 1. In the top of the 7th, Austin Kearns walked and later scored on an infield single for a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the 7th, the "Flying Hawaiian" Shane Victorino, reached on an infield single, moved to 3rd on an error and scored easily on a fielder's choice to knot it up at 2, and Carlos Ruiz slammed a solo homer for a 3-2 lead. In the top of the 8th, Jesus Flores' knocked in one run on an infield single, and Kearns singled in a second run for a 4-3 lead. In the bottom of the 9th, Victorino singled, and stole second, to put the tying run in scoring position. Sadly, after that the next three batters, Eric Bruntlett, Ruiz, and Chris Coste went down in order, to finish off the 4-3 loss. So the Phils drop to 68-59 overall and 2.5 games behind the Mets in the NL East.
